Check Alternator Mounting and Electrical
Connections
For further information refer to Function Groups 2 and 3.
Charging System
An alternator with an integrated regulator is used to sup-
ply power to the vehicle electrical system. The charging
system voltage should be checked periodically to prevent
overcharging or undercharging the batteries and to de-
tect any voltage drop in the wiring.

Check Drive Belts
Ensure that the engine cannot be started while work-
ing around the fan area. Failure to do so may result in
serious personal injury or death.
Note: This check is also considered Noise Emissions
Control Maintenance, which is required maintenance for
any Volvo vehicle. For further information on Noise Emis-
sions refer to “Noise Emissions” page 6.
To perform a function check of the Drive Belts complete
the following:
1 Check fan belts for correct tension.
2 Inspect the belts for wear, cracks and fraying.
3 Check along the belts for proper alignment.
4 Visually inspect hubs and pulleys for wear and dam-
age.
5 Inspect the vibration damper for leaks or any sur-
face damage.
