6. FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT
A. Remove the spare tire from inside the vehicle’s
trunk.
B. Remove the holding tray for the convertible top,
located behind the seats. Remove all of the
pushpins securing the holding tray. (Refer to
page 20-71 of the factory service manual for the
location of all the pushpins) Slide the tray out by
way of the trunk. (See
Fig. 6a.
)
C. Remove the three- (3) screws securing the cover
of the fuel tank.
D. Disconnect the fuel feed and return lines from the
top of the tank along with the electrical connec-
tors.
E. Remove the eight- (8) screws securing the top of
the fuel pump module to the gas tank. Carefully
remove the fuel pump module using care not to
damage the fuel level sender. (See
Fig. 6-b.
)
F. Disconnect the electrical connector connecting
to the fuel pump.
G. Unsnap the white plastic retaining clip next to the
fuel filter. (See
Fig. 6-c.
)
H. Using a pair of pliers, slide the spring clamp on
the short fuel hose down and remove the fuel
pump from the module. (See
Fig. 6-d.
)
I. Carefully remove the small retaining clip secur-
ing the fuel filter to the bottom of the fuel pump.
Remove the fuel filter and attach it to the provided
replacement fuel pump and secure it with the
small retaining clip previously removed.
J. Remove the short fuel line from the discharge of
the fuel pump and install onto the new fuel pump.
K. Reinstall the removed components in reverse
order.

NOTE: Pressing in on the center of the black plas-
tic removable rivets with a small screwdriver
will cause them to release.
