Getting started Parts checklist Your telephone contains the following items. Save your sales receipt and original packaging in the event warranty service is necessary. Getting started Battery installation Install the battery as shown below. 1 Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the battery compartment, matching the color-coded label. 2 Place the battery with the label THIS SIDE UP and the wires inside the battery compartment. 3 Slide the battery compartment cover towards the center of the handset until it clicks into place. 4 Charge the handset by placing it in the telephone base. CHARGE light remains on when charging.

Getting started Belt clip and optional headset Belt clip To attach the belt clip: Snap the belt clip into the slots on both sides of the handset. To remove the belt clip: Gently lift either of the belt clip tabs outwards to remove the belt clip from the handset. Headset For handsfree telephone conversation, you can use any industry standard 2.5mm headset (purchased separately). For best results, use a VTech 2.5mm headset. Lift the plastic cover. Plug a 2.
Getting started Add and register a handset Each newly purchased handset (DS6101) must be registered to the telephone base (DS6151) before use. When first purchased, each expansion handset shows Press [HOLD] on base for 4 sec, then press [#] on handset. You may need to charge the handset before registering to the telephone base. For more details on battery charging, see the table on page 2. To make registration easier, read all of the instructions on this page before you begin. To register a handset: 1.
Getting started Replace a handset If you want to replace a handset or reassign the designated handset number of a registered handset, you must deregister all the handsets and then individually register each handset. To make deregistration easier, read all of the instructions on this page before you begin. To deregister all handsets: 1. Remove any handset from the telephone base. Press and hold HOLD on the telephone base for about 10 seconds until the telephone base displays Deregister all handsets? 2.
Getting started Handset layout Softkeys (2) Press to select a menu item displayed above the key. (speakerphone) Press to make or join a call using the first available line, starting with line 1. Press to answer a call. During a call, press to switch between speakerphone and handset use. /VOL (directory/volume) Press to enter the directory when the telephone is not in use. While in a menu, press to scroll up. During a call or message playback, press to increase the listening volume.
Getting started Handset layout (continued) Headset jack Plug in a wired headset for handsfree telephone conversation. CHARGE light On when the handset is charging in the telephone base. OFF During a call, press to hang up. Press and hold while the telephone is not in use to erase the missed calls indicator. Press to delete a digit or character while entering a number or name. While in a menu, press to return to the previous menu or press and hold to return to the idle mode.

Appendix Operating range This cordless telephone operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and telephone base can communicate over only a certain distance - which can vary with the locations of the telephone base and handset, the weather, and the layout of your home or office. When the handset is out of range, the handset displays Out of range OR no power at base.
Appendix ® The RBRC seal ® The RBRC seal on the nickel-metal hydride battery indicates that VTech Communications, Inc. is voluntarily participating in an industry program to collect and recycle these batteries at the end of their useful lives, when taken out of service within the United States and Canada. ® The RBRC program provides a convenient alternative to placing used nickel-metal hydride batteries into the trash or municipal waste, which may be illegal in your area.

These requirements are intended to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.

Appendix California Energy Commission battery charging testing instructions This telephone is set up to comply with the energy-conserving standards right out of the box. These instructions are intended for California Energy Commission (CEC) compliance testing only. When then CEC battery charging testing mode is activated, all telephone functions, except battery charging, will be disabled. To activate the CEC battery charging testing mode: 1.
