Tektronix to VXI Technology Cross-Ref. Guide 13
SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
OVERVIEW
VXI products have been in the marketplace since 1987. As with older GPIB products, certain
VXIbus products are now running into obsolescence problems, particularly if they were ported
onto VXI from an older product. Over the last ten years, VXI Technology, Inc. (VTI) has provided
products to replace such obsolete instruments, specializing in translation drivers, cross-reference
cable assemblies and other solutions to minimize the impact of re-engineering the existing test
station design.
As of March 31, 2001, Tektronix
terminated their VXI line. This leaves users who have
standardized on certain Tektronix products, or have ATE built around these Tektronix products,
with "ATE Obsolescence" issues. Changing from these Tektronix products to an alternate family
of products would traditionally require a large investment that would involve extensive rewriting
or translation of code, re-engineering of test adapters and re-verification of new test programs.
CROSS-REFERENCED PRODUCTS
VXI Technology has created a program that allows specific Tektronix products to be replaced with
functionally superior products that will be supported for at least the next 10 - 15 years. This
approach will enable existing Tektronix VXI product users to continue building systems with
minimal engineering impact, and yet provide an upgrade path that can fully utilize the benefits of
our line of modular switches and instruments. These benefits include reduced size, improved
signal integrity, faster system throughput and lower overall system cost. The cross-referenced
products (Table 1-1) all come with translation driver source coded and connector cross-reference
documentation, minimizing engineering efforts associated with changing products.
