SECTION 11
VX4330 TO SM4330: 120 CHANNEL, 2 A
SPECIFICATION COMPARISONS
Note The information provided in this section is specific to the SM4330. The SM4330A provides a pin-
to-pin replica of the Tektronix VM4350 and is presented in Section 2.

NOTE** The VX4330 and SM4330 are configured using different 'building blocks'. For example, in
2-wire mode, the VX4330 is sectioned off in six groups of 1 x 20, and these sections (or groups)
can be joined to form larger scanners, up to 120 channels. In 2-wire mode, the SM4330 is
sectioned off in four groups of 1 x 20 and two groups of 1 x 16. Groups 1, 2, 4 and 5 are the
1 x 20 groups. Sections 3 and 6 are the 1x16 groups. These sections can be joined under program
control to form larger scanners, up to 120 channels. Because the VX4330 groups are 1 x 20 and
the SM4330 groups are really 1 x 8, the SM4330 channel configurations vary, depending on the
number of groups joined. The standard configurations are: ‘no groups joined’, ‘groups 1 & 2
(and/or 4 & 5) joined’ and ‘groups 1, 2 & 3 (and/or 4, 5 & 6) joined’. Channel pin assignments
for the various configurations are detailed on the following pages.
