Morse Mechanical Engine Controls - MD-24
MD-24 Control System
Dual-function, single-lever control system
The MD-24 system minimizes lost motion and eliminates leakage
problems associated with air and hydraulic systems. The system is
comprised of three sections: pilot house control, enclosed cable over
pulley system, and engine control unit.
•Mechanical advantage - shift 3.28:1/throttle 2.18:1

System Components
Stock # Description
MOR47877 ........................... MD-24 Single Control Head
provides shift and throttle for
one engine.
MOR47966 ........................... MD-24 Twin Control Head
provides shift and throttle for
twin engines.
MOR28126 ........................... 90° Aluminum Cable Elbows.
For use with standard 3/4" E.M.T.
thin wall conduit. Number needed
depends on specific routing
requirements.
MOR28135 ........................... Engine Control unit. One
required per engine. Includes
sprocket and chain, chain
connecting hardware, turnbuckles,
strut, ball joints, gear unit, and
mounting hardware.
MOR28190 ........................... Terminal block for use with
3/4" E.M.T. thin wall conduit.
One required for use with each
engine control unit. Depending
on number of control stations,
additional terminal blocks may
be required.
MOR28796 ........................... Spring link is required between
Engine Control Unit and governor
or throttle lever on engine. Spring
Link keeps the engine at idle speed
throughout the shift range and is
necessary for neutral throttle
function.
MOR28984............................Chain and Sprocket. Includes
sprocket, chain and cable
connectors; mounts on engine
control unit, used when adding
a second control station. May also
be used on a 3/4" jackshaft for
multiple stations.
MOR30359 ........................... Sprocket Only
MOR29101 ........................... Engine Room Hand Lever.
Mounts on engine control unit,
permits control at engine room--
not required with pilot house
disconnect.
MD-24 System Applications
Typical MD-24 Installations:
The MD-24 control system is easily adaptable for single, dual and even
triple station installations with single or twin gasoline or diesel engines
with hydraulic reverse gears. The following examples are but a few of
the many adaptations possible.
Multiple Stations
An MD-24 system can have several control stations simply by con-
necting all the stations to a common jack shaft and running one cable-
over-pulley system to each engine as shown above. In most cases,
standard Morse chain and sprocket assemblies may be used. Shafts,
pillow blocks, etc., should be obtained locally.
Two Lever with Omega Reverse Gear
MD-24 is set-up as a two lever control system with the Twin Disc
Omega reverse gear. Note a standard single function control such as
the SR can be substituted for the throttle utilitzing a Red-Jaket push-
pull cable.
Twin Engines
Twin engines can be easily controlled with one hand when using a
Morse heavy duty system.
