How the Dampening System Operates
To the side of the diaphragms (6) there is a cylinder (10) with a
rod going to the recording arm (5). On the other end of the rod is
a round disk.
The cylinder must be filled with the dampening fluid supplied for
the dampening system to operate (Do not substitute any other
fluid for use as dampening fluid).
To fill, remove the friction fitted cover of the cylinder, fill with
fluid, replace cover.
Once the cylinder is full the disk will only move through the fluid
slowly, as when the pressure changes. The fluid will prevent the
disk (and therefore the recorder arm head) to move quickly, such
as when the boat is moving or rocking.

Operating Instructions
To open: Open lock (1) to lift hood.
To fit the charts: Remove the clip (8). Twist the vertical post (7)
so it holds the recorder arm (5) away from the drum. Wrap a chart
around the drum (4) with both ends overlapping at the clip position.
Replace clip (8) making sure that the clip covers the chart so the
felt pen will not catch on the chart.
To install felt tip pen: Insert the felt tip pen onto the recording
arm (5). Next, turn the drum so the pen is at the exact time and day
position and twist the vertical post (7) so that the pen touches the
chart (the recording arm must not touch the post).
To adjust altitude: The barograph must be adjusted to local air
pressure. This is done by twisting the knurled knob on the base
plate (9) located near the diaphragms (6). Twisting the knob will
raise or lower the recording arm. It is advisable to take correct
position from a control barometer or from the radio forecast. Screw
turned to the left («) will move pen downwards. Screw turned to
the right (») will move pen upwards. The maximum altitude possible
with this barograph is 4500 feet above sea level. In making an
altitude correction 1.1 inch of adjustment is required for every 1000
feet. Example:
Sea Level - 0.00 inch
100 ft. - 0.11 inch
500 ft. - 0.55 inch
1000 ft. - 1.10 inch
1500 ft. - 1.65 inch
To change charts: If it is desired to use the same chart for a
second week, open the case cover, remove the recording arm from
the chart and rotate the drum clockwise, just enough to let the nib
indicate the proper time at the beginning of the second week. Very
Important: One complete revolution of the drum takes about 7-1/2
days; note that Monday morning is shown at both ends of the chart.
If it is permitted to run over the clip and continue into the next
week, it will appear to be about 12 hours slow.
To install battery: unscrew nut (2) on top of drum (3). Lift drum
to expose battery housing and replace with a 1.5 volt AA alkaline
battery. Replace drum and nut.
