Startup — final checks (continued)
Use the U-Control display to navigate to Manual test 3.
mode (see Figure 85, page 64) and force the firing rate
to MAX (high fire).
Look at the ame through the ame inspection win-4.
dow. The high fire ame should be blue and should
be stable. The burner surface should be covered with
orange dots.
Remove the ue temperature sensor from the ue pipe 5.
and insert a combustion test probe., using a calibrated
combustion test instrument.
Test for CO6.
2
(or O

) and for CO. The CO
2
values must be
within 0.5% of the values listed in Figure 88. If results are
acceptable, proceed to step 7. IF NOT, follow the instruc-
tions under “Throttle screw adjustment procedure to
set the throttle screw position. See WARNING below.
If combustion at either high or low fire
is outside the range given in Figure 88,
follow the procedure given on for ad-
justing the throttle screw on the venturi.
If throttle screw adjustment does not
correct the problem, then shut down
the boiler and contact your local Weil-
McLain representative. Throttle screw
adjustment must be done only by a
qualified technician, using calibrated
test instruments. Failure to comply could
result in severe personal injury, death or
substantial property damage.

Check system and boiler
Check water piping
Check system piping for leaks. If found, shut down boiler and 1.
repair immediately. (See WARNING on page 72 regarding failure
to repair leaks.)
Vent any remaining air from system using manual vents. Air in the 2.
system will interfere with circulation and cause heat distribution
problems and noise.
Check vent piping and air piping
Check for gas-tight seal at every connection and seam of air piping 1.
and vent piping.
Venting system must be sealed gas-tight to prevent ue
gas spillage and carbon monoxide emissions which will
result in severe personal injury or death.
Check gas piping
Check around the boiler for gas odor following the procedure of 1.
page 52 of this manual.
If you discover evidence of any gas leak, shut down the
boiler at once. Find the leak source with bubble test and
repair immediately. Do not start boiler again until cor-
rected. Failure to comply could result in severe personal
injury, death or substantial property damage.
Propane boilers — verify conversion
Verify propane orifice has been installed per Propane Conversion 1.
instructions.
DO NOT adjust or attempt to measure gas valve
outlet pressure. The gas valve is factory-set for the
correct outlet pressure. This setting is suitable for
natural gas and propane, requiring no field adjust-
ment. Attempting to alter or measure the gas valve
outlet pressure could result in damage to the valve,
causing potential severe personal injury, death or
substantial property damage.
Ultra boilers are shipped ready to fire natural
gas ONLY. Exception: The Ultra-80LP is factory-
equipped to fire propane. You must install the
propane orifice if the boiler will be connected to
propane. See page 9. Failure to comply could result in
severe personal injury, death or substantial property
damage.
Check flame & combustion with instruments
Initiate a call for heat on one of the heat demand inputs.1.
Access the U-Control installer menus by pressing and holding the 2.
UP and DOWN arrow keys for five seconds.
