Use and Care Manual
Guidelines to prevent
the spread of COVID-19
In addition to cleaning your fall protection equipment, it is best practice to not share
fall protection equipment. Each employee should be provided their own set of personal
protective equipment. Wear disposable gloves when cleaning & disinfecting surfaces.
Inspection and maintenance
of fall protection equipment
is essential. Your harness is
a personal element of the fall
protection system and should
be inspected for signs of wear
or damage prior to each use.
During a thorough cleaning
is also a good time to inspect
the harness for damage to the
webbing and hardware.
STEP 1:
Place the harness on a clean at surface, leaving it
open to visible inspection.
STEP 2:
Use a damp sponge and wipe down the harness to
remove excess grime and dust.
STEP 3:
Mix a mild cleaning solution using laundry detergent
or dish soap.
-
DO NOT use any disinfectants that contain chlorine,
bleach or other harsh chemicals.
- NEVER use gasoline or other ‘drying solvents’ to
clean harnesses.
STEP 4:
Dip sponge into the solution and thoroughly scrub
each portion of the harness until a thick lather forms.
-
Dampen but DO NOT SOAK the harness.
Use a sponge dipped in CLEAN water, wipe down
the harness and remove the suds and soap residue.
STEP 5:
Hang the safety harness in a cool, dry,
clean environment, out of direct sunlight until
completely dry.
-
DO NOT use a mechanical heat dryer or expose the
harness to long periods of sun-drying. Excessive
heat and tumbling can damage the harness.
When cleaning multiple harnesses, hang each one separately so the
harness can dry completely. Ensure you hang each harness in such
a way they will not be crushed, creased or worn while drying.
