B. Filling the Fresh Water System
A coolant recovery tank kit
is
supplied with each Westerbeke gasoline generator. The purpose
of
this recovery
tank
is
to
allow for engine coolant expansion and contraction, during engine operation, without the loss of
coolant and without introducing air into the cooling system.
This coolant recovery tank should be installed
at,
or
above, the engine's manifold level,
in
a location where
it can be easily monitored and where coolant can be easily added if needed (see the figure below). A stain-
less steel mounting bracket
is
supplied with each kit along with a 30 inch length of clear plastic hose and
clamps
to
connect the hose between the engine's manifold fitting
to
the hose spud on the base of the recovery
tank.

NOTE: Coolant loss can occur at the connection points of the plastic hose, at the manifold
fitting, and the tank spud and
go
undetected when this coolant leaks onto the hot exhaust
manifold and evaporates. Check these connections when troubleshooting the cooling sys-
tem for coolant loss.
