If
the specified (19°

C)
injection timing can-
not be attained, adjust the timing
by
increasing
or decreasing the thickness
of
the injection pump
mounting shim. Changing the shim thickness
by
0.004 inch (O.Olmm) changes the injection timing
by approximately one degree. To advance the
timing, decrease the shim !hichness, as required.
To retard the timing, increase the shim thickness,
as required.

Crankshaft Pulley Timing Marks
Once the diesel generator set has been placed in operation, there may be adjustments required for engine
speed (Hertz) during the engine's break-in period (first
50 hours) or after this period. A no-load voltage
adjustment may also be required in conjunction with the engine's speed adjustment.
II
CAUTION
II
When starting the generator, it
is
recommended that all
AC
loads, especially large
motors, be switched OFF until the engine has come up
to
speed and, in cold climates,
starts to warm
up.
This precaution will prevent damage caused
by
unanticipated
operation
of
AC
machinery and will prevent a cold engine from stalling.
Generator
Frequency Adjustment
Frequency is a direct result
of
engine/generator speed, as indicated
by
the following:
When the generator is run at
1800 rpm, the
AC
voltage output frequency is 60 Hertz. When the generator
is run at
1500 rpm, the
AC
voltage output frequency is 50 Hertz.
Therefore, to change the generator's frequency, the generator's speed must be changed. To accomplish the
frequency change, perform the following:
1.
Connect the
AC
output leads
to
the
AC
terminal block in accordance with the
AC
Voltage
Connections diagram specified for your generator set, which appears in the "BT GENERA TOR" section
ofthis
manual.
