The Saf-T-Bar
®
is UL listed for fan support and exceeds the requirements of the National Electric Code for
fans weighing up to 70 lbs., for lighting fixtures mounted on 16” center joists weighing up to 150 lbs., and
lighting fixtures mounted on 24” center joists weighing up to 90 lbs.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Turn off electrical power at breaker!
1. Using the four screws provided, mount the Saf-T-Bar
®
to the ceiling joist (figure 1).
NOTE: Feet are preset for

2" sheetrock, be sure that the box will be flush with the finished ceiling.
2. Loosen the locknuts that clamp the electrical box to the bar and slide the box to the desired location
(outer tube of bar
only). See figure 2. Retighten the locknuts securely. Pull wire into box using clamp provided. Do not overtighten. Tighten with
hand only. DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS TO TIGHTEN.
3. If you are not installing the fan at this time, install mounting hardware (to prevent it from being misplaced), tuck wire into
box and replace Saf-T-Cap
®
(figure 3). Saf-T-Cap
®
protects bolts and wiring during painting and sheetrocking.
4. When you are ready to hang the fan or fixture, remove Saf-T-Cap
®
and the pre-installed 10-24 x
3
4" bolts. Install fan or
fixture screwing the 10-24 x
3
4" bolts into the threaded inserts, NOT THE ELECTRICAL BOX EARS! Box ears can be used
to mount lightweight fixtures or cover plates. Finish installation according to fan or fixture manufacturer’s instructions.
