Gas Water Heater Operation
Air for combuson passes through
the boom of the water heater
into the combuson chamber. Gas
ows into the burner and is ignited
by the pilot ame.
Heat from combuson rises
and contacts the tank boom
head being transferred through
the steel into the
water.
As the heated water rises, cooler
water sinks to the boom of the
tank.
The ue pipe carries away
combuson by product gasses
as well as acng as a heat
transfer surface. At the center
of the ue is a bae. The bae
helps transfer heat by
deecng hot combuson
gasses against the sides of the
ue where the heat is
transferred into the water.
