In some models, a heat trap is installed at the hot water outlet and cold water inlet to reduce standby heat loss.
The heat trap saves energy by prevenng hot water in the tank from rising into the plumbing lines.
Heat traps can be installed internally or externally.

External Flap-Type Heat Trap Fing
Exterior ngs have a rubber ap that seles in place
to stop hot water from rising into the lines. The aps
are forced open when hot water is drawn from the
tank.

sele into place to stop hot water from rising into the
lines. The aps are forced open when hot water is
drawn from the tank.
