IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Mlcrowave ovens have been thoroughly tested for safe and efflclent operation. However, as wlfh any appliance, there are special lnstallatlon and safety precautions which must be followed to ensure safe and saffsfactory operation and prevent damage to fhe untt. To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, Injury to persons, or damage when using the mlcrowave oven, follow basic precauffons, Including the followlng: 1. Read ail instructions before using the microwave oven.
Using your microwave oven Microwave oven controls There are four parts in the control section: -The Dlgltal Display/Clock and Indicator Lights - Command Pads - Number Pads - Fan and Light Pads lnstructlons for each control are covered on the followlng pages. Read them carefully. When you first plug In the oven, a tone sounds and the Display will show 88:88. If after you set the Clock (page 6) the Display agaln shows all 8’s; your electrlclty was off for a whlle.
Fan and light Pads Number Pads The six pads at the bottom of the control panel control the 2-Speed Exhaust Fan and the Cooktop Light. Once you’ve touched a Command Pad to tell the oven what you want It to do, you’ll touch Number Pads to tell it... - a time. - a Cook Power. - a food temperature. Touch Fan Pad for the deslred fan speed. (NOTE: If the temperature gets too hot around the mlcrowave oven, the exhaust fan In the vent hood will automatically turn on the l.CW sefflng to protect the oven.
The Display will show what numbers you touched In the order you touched them. This example shows 3:25. The colon will stop flashing. The Clock is set. 3. Touch START. If you have touched in an incorrect time, such as12:65, “Err” will show on the Display. Touch Number Pads to reenter the time of day. If you have not entered the time of day within eight seconds, you must touch CLOCK SETand start over. NOTE: To mthe Clock, touch CLOCK SET.The current tlme will show on the Display and the colon will flash.
Changlng the Mlnute Timer Cancelling -Touch MINUTE TIMER. -Touch numbers to set new time. - Touch START. New lnstructlons cancel the old ones. -Touch MINUTE TIMER. -Touch CANCEL. Note. Touch MINUTE TIMER before touching CANCEL to cancel just the Minute Timer. If CANCEL Is touched first, all cooklng Instructions will be cancelled and the Mlnute Timer will continue to operate. The Mlnute Tlmer can be set to tlme other activities in any other cycle. The Dlsplay will countdown the atlon.
The Display will show the numbers you touched In the order you touched them. The example shows 1 minute, 30 seconds. The oven will automatically cook at HIGH Cook Power. The COOK 1 indicator Light will stay on to show that the oven is cooking in the first cycle. count dawn The Display counts down the time to show how much tlme is left in the first cycle. When the cooklng tlme ends, “End” will show on the Display and 4 beeps will sound. (You can stop the beeplng by openlng the door or by touching CANCEL] “End” will remaln on the Display and a remlnder tone will sound every 60 seconds (to remind you that food Is left In the oven) until the door Is opened or CANCEL Is touched. Changing the Pre-programmed Setting You can change fhe pre-progmmmed cooklng time and Cook Power In Auto Set TIME to the tlme and power you most often use. To change the Auto Set TIME setting, follow these steps: 1. Touch Auto Set TIME twice. 2. Touch the Number Pads for the new desired cooklng time. If HIGH Cook Power Is deslred, sklp to Step 5. 3. Touch COOK POWER. 4. Touch the Number Pad for the deslred Cook Power. 5. Touch START.The oven will start. If food is not to be cooked at this time.
The Display will show what you touched. Thls example shows you touched Number Pad 5 for 50% of full power. 6. Touch The AUTO SETand PROBETEMPIndlcator Llghts will stay on. The Dlsplay will show CCCL” If the food Is less than 90°F As the foad cooks. the Dlsplay will show the Internal temperature of the food for every 5°F Increase. START. When the probe senses the temperalure you selected, the oven shuts off. “End” will show on the Dlsplay and 4 beeps will sound.

Standlng Time and Cooklng Automatically After Defrosling For best results, allow the food to stand for a while after defrostlng. Thls helps equalize the temperature of the food to provlde more even defrostlng. When Cook 1 Is setto follow QUICK DEFRCXT,theoven automatlcally provldes a standing tlme equal to the time touched In for QUICK DEFRPST.Cook 1will begin after the automatic standlng tlme. There Is no standlng tlme between QUICK DEFROSTand KEEPWARM. For cooking automatloally atter detrostlng: 1.
Cooking in More Than One Cycle at One or More Cook Powers For best results, some recipes call for one Cook Power for a certain length of time, and another Cook Power for another length of time. Your oven can be set to change from one to another automatically. DO THIS... THIS HAPPENS... 1. Put food In the oven and close the door. q.. 2. Touch The COOK 1 Indicator Llght will come on and the Dlsplay will show four 0’s. COOK 1. The Display will show the numbers you touched In the order you touched them.

Select a Cook Power. (Option: Skip to Step 10 If you want to cook at HIOH power.) 1 The Display will show what you touched. This example shows you touched Number Pad 4 for 40% of I full power. When you touch START,the COOK 1 Indicator Light will stay on while the oven is cooking In the flrst cycle.
When Cook 2 ends, “End” will show on Dlsplay and 4 beeps will sound. (You can stop the beeplng by opening the door or by touching CANCEL.) “End” will remain on the Dlsplay and a remlnder tone will sound every 60 seconds (to remind you that food Is left In me oven] until the door Is opened or CANCEL Is touched. Thls example shows a final cooked temperature of about 140°F. 7. Touch the Number Pad for the Cook Power you want. The PROBETEMPand COOK POWER Indicator Lights will stay on.
NOTE: Some toods are started using a timed (COOK) cycle and flnlshed by using the temperature (PROBE TEMP) cycle. You can set PROBETEMP to tollow COOK 1 or 2 to avold the need to reset the oven halfway through the cycle. PROBETBMP can be programmed with the Tempemre Probe out. The oven will pause between COOK 1 or 2 and PROBETEMP.“PROB” will show on the Dlrplay to remind you to plug In lhe probe.
Using PAUSE For best results, some recipes call for sflrrlng, furnlng over or rearmnglng food, or for addlng lngredlents durlng cooklng. Your mlcrowave oven can be set to pause between COOK 1 and COOK 2, between any Cook cycle and PRO6 TEMF!between AUTO SETand a followlng cycle, between QUICK DEFROST and a followl,ng cycle (except COOK l), or durlng QUICK DEFROST.Thls gives you time to stir (casseroles), turn over (meat] or rearrange (potatoes] food, orto add Ingredlenfs.
Addlng ‘PAUSE” Between Cycles PAUSEcan be added to any cycle In opemtlon as long as fhere Is another cycle programmed fo follow . Touch PAUSE. . Touch START. The mlcrowave oven will stop automatically after the cycle In opemflon. You will hear 2 beeps. STARTmust be touched to conflnue wlfh the next cycle. Using KEEP WARM Hot, cooked foods can be safely kept warm in your microwave oven for up to 99 mlnufes, W seconds (about 1 hour, 40 mlnufes).
Using AUTO SXdRT The mlcrowave oven can be sef to start automatically at a later time. Use AUTO STARTto delay fhe start of cooking for up to 11hours, 59 minutes. Do THIS... THIS HAPPENS... 1. Bi-Level Cooking Rack Use the Bi-Level Cooking Rack for extra space when cooking in more than one container at the same time. The metal rack can be turned upside-down to help fit taller containers on the bottom of the oven. I Second Posltlon I Insetting the Rack l l Insert the rack securely into the rack supports on the side walls of the oven (first position). Turn rack upside-down when using a taller container on the bottom of the oven [second position).
Caring for the Filters The grease filters should be removed and cleaned offen, at least once a month. NOTE: If your mlcrowave hood comblnatlon Is Installed to recirculate air, the charcoal filter (Part No. 4358003) should be replaced every 612 months. The charcoal flfter can not be cleaned. 1. For your personal safefy, turn off me elecfrlc power af me maln power supply. 3. Soak grease filters in hot water and a mild detergent. Scrub and swish to remove embedded dirt and grease.
Replacing the Cooktop and Oven Lights Use only candelabra could result In flre. The Cooktop Fire Hazard base bulbs, 30-watt maxlmum. Failure to do so light: 1,. 2. Remove the bulb cover mounting screws. Electrical Shock Hazard Turn off power at maln power supply betore replaclng the light bulb. Fallu~~ to do so could result In electrical shock. 3. We recommend replacing bulb(s) wlth candelabrabase 30-watt bulb(s) available from your authorized WhirlpoolSM service company (Part No. 4158432).
Operating safety precautions To reduce the risk of fire, electrlcal shock, Injury to persons, or damage when using the mlcrowave oven, follow the precautions on pages 30-32. NEVER COOK OR REHEATA WHOLE EGG. Steam build-up in whole eggs may cause them to burst and burn you, and possibly damage the oven. Slice hard boiled eggs before heating. In rare instances, poached eggs have been known to explode. Cover poached eggs and allow a standing time of one minute before cutting into them. USE HOT PADS.
DO NOT use the oven for storage. Do not leave paper products, books or cooking utensils in the oven when not In use. Fire may result If someone accidentally starts the oven. DO NOT let food or container touch the top or sides of the oven. DO NOT OVERCOOK POTATOES.Fire could result. At Starting a microwave oven when Its empty Is not recommended. If you practtce programming the oven, put a container of water in the oven.
General information If your electric power line or outlet voltage is less than normal 120 volts, cooklng times may be longer. To test a dlsh for safe use, put it Into the oven with a cup of water beslde It. Cook on HIGH Cook Power for one minute. If the dish gets hot and water stays cool, do not use It. Some dishes (melamine, Centura,@ etc.] absorb microwave energy, becoming too hot to handle and slowlng cooklng times. Remove wire twist-ttes from paper or plastic bags before placlng bag In oven.
