IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS For Use of Microwave Upper Oven Microwave ovens have been thoroughly tested for safe and efficient operation. However, as with any appliance, there are special installation and safety precautions which must be followed to ensure safe and satisfactory operation and prevent damage to the unit. To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, injury to persons or damage when using the microwave oven, follow basic precautions, including 1.
12. To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity: a. Do not overcook food. Carefully attend appliance if paper, plastic, or other corn busti ble materials are placed inside the oven to facilitate cooking. Number Pads Once you’ve touched a Command Pad to tell the oven what you want to do, you’ll touch Number Pads to tell it... - a time, - a Cook Power, - a food temperature, - a food setting. Audible Signals Audible signals are available to guide you when setting and using your oven. A programming tone will sound each time you touch a pad. Two beeps will sound between cycles. A reminder tone will sound every 60 seconds after cooking is done to remind you that something has been left in the oven.
Setting the Clock When the oven is first plugged in, a tone sounds and the display shows 88:88. If the electric power ever goes off, the Display will again show all 8’s when the power comes back on. You can cook or use the Minute Timer without setting the Clock, but the Display will be blank after cooking. DO THIS... THIS HAPPENS... The Display will show a “0” and the colon will start to flash. The first Number Pad must be touched within 5 seconds or the Display will go blank.
Using the Minute Timer The Minute Timer does not start or stop cooking. It can be used alone or while the oven is operating. It works like a kitchen timer. DO THIS... THIS HAPPENS... .. ., ...i 1. Touch MINUTE TIMER. The MINUTE TIMER Indicator Light will come on and the Display will show a “0”. The first Number Pad must be touched within 5 seconds or the Display will again show the time of dav. Touch MINUTE TIMER again and continue.
Opening the oven door does not stop the Minute Timer countdown; however, it does stop any cooking or defrosting. Close the door and touch STARTto continue cooking or defrosting. The oven automatically thaws and cooks at a preset Cook Power for that setting. “AS-3” will show on the Display and the AUTO SENSOR Indicator Light will stay on to show that the oven is cooking the food. Do not open the oven door during this part of the cycle. 5. Touch START. When you hear 2 beeps, the Display will show and count down the remaining cooking time (except at setting Number I). The oven door can now be opened to stir, turn or rearrange food.
The AUTO SENSOR Indicator Light will come on and the Display will show “SL-CI’ 2. Touch SLOW COOK/SIMMER. . Ea .. The Display change. will not 3. The QUICK DEFROST Indicator Light stays on and the Display counts down the standing time. During the countdown the oven will be dark, and the fan will be off. When the standing time is you will hear 2 beeps and the Cook cycle will start. BEEPBEEP over, The COOK 1 Indicator Light will be on during the Cook cycle.
DO THIS... 1. Insert at least Y3of the Temperature Probe into the food. (See page 29.) DO THIS... 2. Place food in the oven and plug the probe into the socket on the oven wall. 3. Make sure the probe does not touch any part of the oven interior. Close the door. THIS HAPPENS... The PROBE TEMP Indicator Light will come on and the Display will show “F:’ nnn 5. Using KEEP WARM Hot, cooked foods can be safely kept warm in your microwave oven for up to 99 minutes, 99 seconds (about 1 hour, 40 minutes). KEEP WARM can be used by itself, or it can automatically follow a Cook cycle or Probe Temp cycle. DO THIS... 1. THIS HAPPENS... Put cooked, hot food in oven and close door. The KEEP WARM Indicator Light will come on. The Display will show the time of day 3. l l l l l l Touch START. The KEEP WARM Indicator Light will stay on.
Other Operating Hints There are a number of things you can do with your microwave oven. Some will be reminders. Others will be mentioned for the first time. 1. To double check settings while the oven is running: l Touch the Command Pad for the setting you want to check. The instruction programmed for that pad will show on the Display for 5 seconds. Then the Display returns to showing what the oven is doing. 2. To stop the oven while it is running: l Open the door. The oven will stop.

How your microwave oven works Microwave ovens are safe. Microwave energy is not hot. It causes food to make its own heat, and it’s this heat that cooks the food Mode Mixer Magnetron Oven Cavity Ceramic Metal Bottom Floor Microwaves are like TV waves or light waves. You can’t see them, but you can see what they do. A magnetron in the microwave oven produces microwaves. The microwaves move into the oven where they are scattered or stirred by a mode mixer (like a fan].
Operating safety precautions I NEVERCOOK OR REHEATA WHOLE EGG. Steam build-up I in whole eggs may cause them to burst and burn you, and possibly damage the oven. Slice hard boiled eggs before heating. In rare instances, poached eggs have been known to explode. Cover poached eggs and allow a standing time of one minute before cutting into them. Liquids heated in certain containers (especially cylindrical-shaped containers] may become overheated.
DO NOT use the oven for storage. Do not leave paper products, books or cooking utensils in the oven when not in use. Fire may result if someone accidentally starts the oven. Don’t let food or containers touch the toD or sides of the oven. DO NOT pop popcorn, except in a microwaveapproved popcorn popper or commercial package designed especially for microwave ovens. NEVERtry to pop popcorn in a paper bag. Overcooking may result in smoke and fire. DO NOT OVERCOOK POTATOES.
