TESTING – DRYER
For Service Technician Use Only
DANGER
Electrical Shock Hazard
Only authorized technicians should perform
diagnostic voltage measurements.
After performing voltage measurements,
disconnect power before servicing.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in
death or electrical shock.
TEST #1: Supply Connecons
This test assumes that proper voltage is present at the
outlet, and for U.S. electric dryer installaons, a visual
inspecon indicates that the power cord is securely fastened
to the terminal block, and for U.S. and Canadian gas dryer
installaons, that the power cord is securely fastened to the
wire harness connecon.
ELECTRIC DRYER (U.S. Installations):
1. Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the cover plate from the lower center poron of
the back of the dryer.
3. With an ohmmeter, check for connuity between the
neutral (N) terminal of the plug and the center contact on
the terminal block.
¾ If there is no connuity, replace the power cord and
test the dryer.
¾ If there is connuity, go to step 4.
4. In a similar way, check which terminal of the plug is
connected to the le-most contact on the terminal block
and make a note of it. This will be L1 (black wire) in the
wiring diagram.
¾ When this is found, go to step 5.
¾ If neither of the plug terminals have connuity with
the le-most contact of the terminal block, replace the
power cord and retest dryer.
5. Access the machine electronics without disconnecng any
wiring to the mer.
6. With an ohmmeter, check for connuity between the L1
terminal of the plug (found in step 4) and pin C on the
mer.
¾ If there is connuity, go to step 7.
¾ If there is no connuity, check that wires to the
terminal block are mechanically secure. If so, replace
the main wire harness and test the dryer.
7. Check for connuity between the neutral (N) terminal of
the plug and the door switch.
¾ If there is connuity, go to step 8.
¾ If there is no connuity, and the mechanical
connecons of the wire are secure, replace the main
wire harness.
8. Visually check that ALL connectors are fully inserted into
the mer and the Start switch.
9. Reassemble all parts and panels.
10. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
ELECTRIC DRYER (Canadian Installations):
1. Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the cover plate from the lower center poron of
the back of the dryer.
3. Access the machine electronics without disconnecng any
wiring to the mer.
4. With an ohmmeter, check the connuity from the L1 plug
terminal of the power cord to pin C on the mer and from
the N plug terminal of the power cord to the door switch.
¾ If connuity exists for both connecons, go to step 6.
¾ If an open circuit is found, check the integrity of the
connecons of the power cord to the harness in the
dryer and the integrity of the power cord itself.
5. If it is necessary to replace the power cord, remove the
retaining clip that secures the cord to the back panel.
Disconnect the cord from the main harness and the
ground wire from the rear panel, then pull out the power
cord.
6. Visually check that ALL connectors are fully inserted into
the mer and the Start switch.
7. Reassemble all parts and panels.
8. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
GAS DRYER (U.S. and Canadian Installations):
1. Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the cover plate from the lower center poron of
the back of the dryer.
3. Check that the power cord is rmly connected to the
dryers wire harness.
4. Access the machine electronics without disconnecng any
wiring to the mer.
5. With an ohmmeter, check for connuity between the
neutral (N) terminal of the plug and the door switch.
¾ If there is connuity, go to step 6.
¾ If there is no connuity or if there is an open circuit,
replace the power cord. Otherwise, go to step 6.
6. In a similar way, check for connuity between the L1
terminal of the plug and pin C on the mer.
¾ If there is connuity, go to step 7.
¾ If there is no connuity or if there is an open circuit,
replace the power cord. Otherwise, replace the main
harness.
7. Visually check that ALL connectors are fully inserted into
the mer and the Start switch.
8. Reassemble all parts and panels.
9. Plug in dryer or reconnect power.
