Microwave Features
Defrost
The Defrost feature can be used, or the microwave oven can be
manually set to defrost by using 20% cook power.
n Unwrap foods and remove lids (from fruit juice) before
defrosng. Remove any metal twist-es and replace them
with strings or elasc bands.
n If food is foil wrapped, remove foil and place it in a suitable
container.
n Slit or pierce plasc pouches or packaging. Slit the skins, if
any, of frozen food such as sausage.
n Bend plasc pouches of food to ensure even defrosng.
n Always underesmate defrosng me. If defrosted food is sll
icy in the center, return it to the microwave oven for more
defrosng.
n The length of defrosng me varies according to how solidly
the food is frozen.
n Shallow packages will defrost more quickly than deep blocks.
n Separate food pieces as soon as possible during or at the end
of a cycle for more even defrosng.
n Foods le outside the freezer for more than 20 minutes or
frozen ready-made food should not be defrosted using the
Custom Defrost feature, but should be defrosted manually.
n Use small pieces of aluminum foil to shield parts of food such
as chicken wings, leg ps and sh tails. See the “Aluminum
Foil and Metal” secon rst.
Steam Cook
Steam Cook is a sensor cooking funcon that uses microwaves
to steam food. Use Steam for foods such as vegetables, sh and
potatoes.
n Times and cooking powers have been preprogrammed for
steaming a number of food types.
n Use a microwave-safe steamer.
n Use 1/2 cup (125 mL) water or as directed in the steamer
instrucons.
Popcorn
NOTE: During Popcorn funcon, as with all microwave cooking
funcons, the microwave oven should be aended at all mes.
Listen for popping to slow to one pop every 1 or 2 seconds, then
stop the cycle.
n To avoid damage to the microwave oven, do not use regular
paper bags or glass utensils.
n Pop only one package of popcorn at a me.
n Follow manufacturer’s instrucons when using a microwave
popcorn popper.
n For best cooking results, do not try to pop unpopped kernels.
n Use fresh bags of popcorn for opmal results.
n Cooking results may vary by brand and fat content.
n The microwave oven uses the sensor to determine sizes that
can be popped: 1.75–3.5 oz (50–99 g) bags.

When beginning a Bake, Convect Bake, or Convect Roast cycle,
the oven will begin preheang aer Start is pressed. The oven
will take approximately 12 to 17 minutes to reach 350°F (177°C)
with all of the oven racks provided with your oven inside the
oven cavity. Higher temperatures will take longer to preheat. The
preheat cycle rapidly increases the oven temperature. The actual
oven temperature will go above your set temperature to oset
the heat lost when your oven door is opened to insert food. This
ensures that when you place your food in the oven, the oven,
will begin at the proper temperature. Insert your food when
the preheat tone sounds. Do not open the door during preheat
before the tone sounds.
Rapid Preheat
Rapid Preheat can be used to shorten the preheang me. Only
one standard at oven rack should be in the oven during Rapid
Preheat. Extra racks should be removed prior to starng. The
preheang cycle should be completed before placing food in the
oven. When the Rapid Preheat cycle is complete, the oven starts
a normal Bake cycle.
IMPORTANT: Rapid Preheat should be used only for one-rack
baking.
Oven Temperature
While in use, the oven elements will cycle on and o as needed
to maintain a consistent temperature, but they may run slightly
hot or cool at any point in me due to this cycling. Opening the
oven door while in use will release the hot air and cool the oven
which could impact the cooking me and performance. It is
recommended to use the oven light to monitor cooking progress.
NOTE: On models with convecon, the convecon fan may run in
the non-convecon bake mode to improve oven performance.
