NoticeondeletingdatafromyourmSATAsolid-statedrive
Ascomputersspreadintoeverycorneroflife,theyprocessmoreandmoreinformation.Thedataonyour
tablet,someofwhichissensitive,isstoredonthesolid-statedrive.Beforeyoudisposeof,sell,orhand
overyourtablet,besuretodeletedatastoredonit.
Handingyourtabletovertosomeoneelsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperatingsystems
andapplicationsoftware,mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Youareadvisedtocheckthetermsand
conditionsofthoselicenseagreements.
Therearemethodsthatseemtodeletethedata:
•Movethedatatotherecyclebin,andthenemptytherecyclebin.
•UsetheDeleteoption.
•Formatyoursolid-statedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•Setthesolid-statedrivebacktothefactorydefaultsettingsusingtherecoveryprogramprovided
byLenovo.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangetheleallocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In
otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.Thedata
isstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseofspecial
softwarefordatarecovery.Thereisariskthatthisdatacanberetrievedandusedforunexpectedpurposes.
Topreventleakageofdata,itbecomesveryimportantthatyoutakeresponsibilityfordeletingallthedata
fromthesolid-statedrivewhenyoudisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourtablet.Youcandestroythedata
physicallybysmashingthesolid-statedrivewithahammer,ormagneticallybymeansofstrongmagnetic
power,thusmakingthedataunreadable.Butwerecommendthatyoumakeuseofthesoftware(payware)or
service(payservice)specicallydevelopedforthepurpose.

Note:Runningeitherapplicationwilltakeacoupleofhours.
Ifasolid-statedriveequippedwithencryptionfeaturesissupportedandinstalledinyourtablet,youcan
logicallydisposeofallthedataonthedriveinaveryshorttimebyerasingthecryptographickey.The
dataencryptedwiththeoldkeyisnotphysicallyerasedbutremainsonthedrive;however,itcannotbe
decryptedwithouttheoldkey.ThisfeatureisenabledbyThinkPadSetupMenuExtensionUtilityandis
availableasamenuiteminThinkPadSetup.
Usingrewalls
Ifyoursystemispreinstalledwitharewallprogram,itprotectsagainstcomputerInternetsecuritythreats,
unauthorizedaccess,intrusions,andInternetattacks.Italsoprotectsyourprivacy.
