Install and Cut
Profile Boards
Interlocking Profile Boards are joined with
matching Connectors to create a sturdy
perimeter. Cut to any profile with the Hot Wire
Foam Cutter (ST1435). For mountains or
taller profiles, stack Profile Boards, then cut.
Profile Board Instructions
Add the length of all sides of layout (in feet) and divide by four to determine the number
of packages of Profile Boards you will need for the perimeter of your layout. Profile
Boards are 8" high. Adjust the number as needed. For example: In mountainous areas
you may want more than one row of 8" high Profile Boards.
1. Start at any corner. Interlock two pieces at a right angle. NOTE: At corners only, turn
one section upside down to interlock (Fig. 1).
2. Continue to join sections around perimeter using Connectors. When Profile Boards
are in place, pin to base with Foam Nails (ST1432). Add rows of Profile Boards as
needed for desired height (Fig. 2).
3. Using the Low Temp Foam Glue Gun (ST1445) or Foam Tack Glue (ST1444), glue
Profile Boards to the base, the Connectors and each other.
4. Determine your terrain’s profile and draw on Profile Boards with Foam Pencil
(ST1431). Cut along the outline with the Hot Wire Foam Cutter or Foam Knife
(ST1433, Fig. 3).
NOTE: Terrain is formed by adding Plaster Cloth (C1203) over newspaper wads and
Profile Boards (Fig. 4).
5. For a smooth outside finish, gently sand with a sanding block (320-grit). For a
hard finish, apply a smooth layer of Plaster Cloth directly to outside surface of
Profile Boards.
