OPERATIONS
7. Use the
7
32" drill bit to drill holes completely
through the new table insert.
8. Install the
13
32" drill bit and use the included table
insert as a guide to set the depth stop on your drill
press to countersink the holes.
9. Countersink the holes you drilled in Step 7 (see
Figure 110), so the heads of the mounting screws
can be recessed into the table insert when installed.
10. Install the dado blade at the thickness desired, mak-
ing sure the blade flange is used on the front of the
of the blade behind the arbor nut, then lower the
blade completely.
11. Test fit the new table insert in the table, then sand
the corners or trim the ends as necessary to get a
precise fit.
12. Mount the new table insert into the table and check
to make sure that it is flush with the top of the
table. If necessary, remove the insert and sand the
top of it down until it will mount up flush with the
table top (see Figure 111).
13. (This step only for standard blades.) Use a bandsaw
or jigsaw to cut slots or notches that will allow the
riving blade to be installed with minimal open space
around it. If you plan to use the scoring knife, do the
same for that blade (we do not recommend using the
scoring blade to cut the slot in the insert because
the adjustment screw is inside the cabinet).
14. Close the cover over the blade and move the sliding
table to the center of the saw.
15. Connect the saw to power, start the motor, and
slowly raise the blade into the zero clearance table
insert (see Figure 112).
Once the blade cuts through the top of the table
insert, do not raise it higher than you anticipate
your cuts to be. Doing so will compromise some of
the zero-clearance qualities of your new table insert
once the blade is subsequently lowered.
