Thank you for purchasing the Yamaha ELECTRONIC DRUM PAD KP128. This electronic drum pad can be used in your home or a studio, or onstage for live performances. For proper assembly and safe use, read this manual carefully before using it. After you have read the manual, keep it in a safe and handy place for future reference. Contents Precautions .................................................................. 5 Package Contents ........................................................ 8 Specifications.....
Package Contents *: If you have purchased a pad set, refer to the “Assembly Manual” that came with it. * Foot pedal is sold separately. q KP128 main unit × 1 t Anti-slip stopper (incl. spring) × 2 w Leg × 2 y Stereo phone cable × 2 (clear, black) e Wing bolt × 2 r Flat washer × 2 u Spare patch × 2 i Owner’s Manual (this booklet) × 1 Keep these patches for future use. The two cables are identical in function. Simply choose the one you want to use and keep the unused one in a safe place.
Assembling the KP128 1. With the bolt u facing you, align the notch on the leg q with the notch on the mounting w as shown in e. Put the washer t into the wing bolt r, and then secure the leg to the KP128. Since the flat washers are very small and can be easily lost, be careful when handling them. * If damage to the floor is not a concern, extend the stoppers at the tip of the legs q and connect the anti-slip stoppers y to the base so that the tip of the stoppers dig into the riser or floor.
Making Connections Using a stereo phone cable q (included), connect the KP128’s OUTPUT jack w to an appropriate input jack on a DTX Series drum trigger module. Be sure to connect the L-shaped end of the cable to the KP128. • On the drum trigger module, set the corresponding pad type as a kick pad. Setting of any other pad type may have unintended consequences such as double triggering (where a single strike produces two distinct sounds).
Adjusting the Output Level The output level from the KP128 can be raised by turning the level adjuster q clockwise and vice-versa. Be sure to adjust this level to best suit the strength with which you strike the pad, your desired dynamic range (i.e., the difference between loudest and quietest volumes), and the type of DTX Series drum trigger module being used.
Adjusting the Head Tension • The drum key bolts for tightening the head can be loosened while using. Each time before you play, adjust the head tension to prevent rattling and loosening of the head. To adjust the head tension, tighten or loosen the six drum key bolts on the outside of the head in the order shown in the figure below. Make sure to tighten or loosen the drum key bolts evenly. If you tighten or loosen only one, the head tension will not be even.
Replacing the Head The head is made from consumable material, and may need to be replaced to prevent malfunction when partial discoloration, sagging, fraying, tearing, or scraping appears. For information on replacement parts, contact your dealer or qualified Yamaha service personnel. Loosen Drum key bolt Tighten Hoop Head Sensor unit 1. Remove all six drum key bolts using the drum key. The drum key can be found in the pad set package. 2. Remove the hoop. 3.
Troubleshooting No sound is produced or the volume is too Low, Sound output does not match your feeling. Is the head tension loose? Loose head tension may cause various problems. (See Adjusting the Head Tension.) Ensure that the KP128 is correctly connected to a DTX Series drum trigger module using the stereo phone cable provided. (See Making Connections.) Check the pad’s output level. If this level is too low, use the level adjuster to increase it. (See Adjusting the Output Level.
