CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING

7. Remove:

• timing mark accessing screw 1

8. Install:

• timing light 1

• inductive tachometer 2

(onto the spark plug lead of cylinder #1)

9. Check:

• ignition timing

a. Start the engine, warm it up for several

minutes, and then let it run at the speci-

fied engine idling speed.

b. Check that the pointer a is within the

required firing range b on the pickup

coil rotor.

Incorrect firing range → Check the igni-

tion system.

NOTE:

The ignition timing is not adjustable.

10.Install:

• all removed parts

NOTE:

For installation, reverse the removal proce-

dure. Note the following point.

Refer to “ROCKER ARMS, PUSH RODS

AND VALVE LIFTERS” in chapter 5.
