You can record your performance on the MODX+ as MIDI data (Songs or Patterns) to the internal storage, or as audio data to a
USB flash memory plugged into the instrument.
Terminology
Song
A Song on this instrument is effectively the same as a song
on a MIDI sequencer, and playback automatically stops at
the end of the recorded data. The MODX+ can store up to
128 Songs.
Track
This is a memory location on the sequencer where your
musical performances (made up of MIDI events) are stored.
The MODX+ provides 16 tracks, which correspond to the 16
Mixing Parts.
Realtime Recording
The instrument records the performance data as it is played
along with a metronome. Realtime Recording features three
available methods: Replace, Overdub and Punch In/Out.
Replace lets you overwrite an already recorded Track with
new data, erasing the previously recorded data.
Overdub lets you add more data to a Track that already
contains data—in other words, recording new notes on top
of the previous ones.
Punch In/Out lets you re-record selectively over a specific
area of the Track.
Pattern
A Pattern is a set of sequences for repeating the same
performance on each Scene (such as intro, verse, bridge,
and ending). By recording the performances of each Scene
and then combining them, you can efficiently create songs,
and play them flexibly during live performances.
For MODX+, you can record up to 8 Scenes with 16 tracks
per Pattern, and you can save up to 128 Patterns.
MIDI (Song) Recording
This instrument features two sequencer types (Song and
Pattern) for recording your keyboard performance as MIDI
data. This function allows you to instantly store phrases that
you improvise, create and perform. You can create full,
complex multi-instrument arrangements and complete
songs, using DAW software.
The Song sequencer lets you record an entire song, and the
Pattern sequencer lets you create entire songs by combining
the individual ‘building-block’ performances recorded for
each Scene.
This section explains how to record a Song using the Song
sequencer. For more information on Pattern recording and
Pattern sequencers, please refer to the Reference Manual.
