Using a Connected Computer
Using the MOTIF XF as an audio
interface
By using the A/D INPUT connector and IEEE1394 connector,
the MOTIF XF can conveniently be used as an audio
interface for your computer. Note that you need install the
optional FW16E for this application.
Setting up the MOTIF XF
1 Set the parameters as below so that the audio
signal input via the A/D INPUT connector is output
via the FW connector to the computer.
In the Voice mode, press the [UTILITY] button to enter the
Utility mode, then press the [F4] button followed by the [SF1]
button to call up the Output display. From this display, move
the cursor to the Output Select of the A/D Input, then select
one of the following settings: “FW1&2” – “FW9&10,”
“FW11&12” and “FW13&14.”
2 Set the parameters as below so that the audio
signal that is output from the computer and input
to the MOTIF XF via the IEEE1394 connector will be
output from the OUTPUT L/R or ASSIGNABLE
OUTPUT L/R connectors.
From the Output display called up in step 1, move the cursor
to the Output Select of the FW, then select “L&R” or “asL&R.”
NOTE
The setting here applies to the audio signals output from FW
ports MOTIF XF6(7, 8) FW L and R of a computer.
3 Press the [STORE] button to store this setting.
Setting up the DAW on the computer
Install the FW Driver and make the proper settings. Select
Yamaha Steinberg FW ASIO (when using an ASIO driver) or
Yamaha Steinberg FW WDM Audio (when using a WDM
driver) as the Audio driver.
NOTE If using Cubase with the MOTIF XF Extension installed, starting
Cubase will set the Audio Driver automatically, allowing you to
easily confirm the Audio Port name.
Remote-controlling the software
(Remote mode)
The MOTIF XF features a highly convenient Remote mode
which lets you control the DAW software and software
synthesizer on your computer via the panel operations of the
MOTIF XF. For example, you can start/stop playback of the
DAW software on the computer by using the Function
buttons and control the song position on the DAW software
by using the data dial, [INC] and [DEC] buttons instead of
using the mouse or keyboard of the computer.
The DAW applications Cubase, Logic Pro, SONAR and
Digital Performer can be controlled by the Remote Control
mode of the MOTIF XF.
This section explains how to control the DAW software from
the MOTIF XF.
What you can do with the Remote
feature
The Remote Control lets you control the following operations.
You can use the sliders, knobs and buttons of the MOTIF XF to
control the sequencer tracks and mixer channels of the DAW
on the computer.
You can view the parameter values on the LCD display of the
MOTIF XF as well as on the computer display, since the values
of the controlled parameters are returned back to the MOTIF
XF from the computer.
