Verbindungen Anschließen von externen MIDI-Geräten Sie können über ein MIDI-Standardkabel (separat erhältlich) ein externes MIDI-Gerät anschließen und es von Ihrem MOTIF aus steuern. Genauso können Sie ein externes MIDI-Gerät (beispielsweise ein Keyboard oder einen Sequencer) zur Steuerung der Sounds des MOTIF verwenden. Im Folgenden finden Sie verschiedene MIDIAnschlußbeispiele. Verbindungen Anschließen an einen Computer Durch den Anschluß an einen Computer können Sie Daten zwischen dem MOTIF und dem Computer über MIDI übertragen, und den Computer zur Steuerung, Bearbeitung und Verwaltung der Daten auf dem MOTIF einsetzen. Sie können beispielsweise den mitgelieferten Voice Editor für die Bearbeitung der Voices des MOTIF nutzen.

Einschalten des Geräts Einschalten des Geräts Nachdem Sie alle notwendigen Verbindungen zwischen dem MOTIF und allen anderen Geräten hergestellt haben, vergewissern Sie sich zunächst, daß alle Volume-Regler auf 0 stehen. Schalten Sie dann alle Geräte Ihres Setups nacheinander ein, zuerst die MIDI-Master (Sendegeräte), dann die MIDI-Slaves (Empfangsgeräte) und schließlich die Audiogeräte (Mischpulte, Verstärker, Lautsprecher usw.).

Systemüberblick Maximale Polyphonie Die maximale Polyphonie des AWM2-Moduls beträgt 62, zuzüglich der Polyphonie des Plug-In-Boards (falls installiert). Beide Abbildungen zusammen dienen Ihnen zum besseren Verständnis der Struktur der Voices und Performances des MOTIF.
Hauptfunktionen Waves und Elements Waves sind Wellenformen, aus denen die Elements aufgebaut werden, die wiederum eine Voice bilden. Insgesamt stehen Ihnen 1309 Waves höchster Qualität zur Verfügung. Wie in der folgenden Abbildung gezeigt wird, wählen Sie zur Erstellung einer Voice zunächst die Wave aus, die Sie als Element benutzen möchten, und stellen dann die zugehörigen Level-, Pitch-, Filter- und anderen Parameter ein.
Hauptfunktionen Intern gibt es zwei Voice-Typen: Normal Voices und Drum Voices. Normal Voices repräsentieren meist Sounds von Musikinstrumenten, die Sie über die gesamte Tastatur spielen können. Drum Voices stellen meist Percussion- oder Schlagzeugsounds dar, die bestimmten einzelnen Tasten auf der Tastatur zugewiesen sind. Eine Sammlung derart zugewiesener Percussion- bzw. Drum-Waves oder Normal Voices bezeichnet man als Drum Kit.

Sie können Elements verstimmen, Pitch Scaling anwenden usw. Mit Hilfe des PEG (Pitch Envelope Generator – Pitch-Hüllkurvengenerator) können Sie auch einen zeitlichen Verlauf der Tonhöhenänderung steuern.

Hauptfunktionen Regler und Controller Der MOTIF bietet Ihnen eine erstaunliche Vielzahl an Steuerungsoptionen. Er ist nicht nur mit den herkömmlichen Pitch Bend- und Modulationsrädern ausgestattet, er bietet auch spezielle Dreh- und Schieberegler sowie auf der Rückseite Buchsen für den Anschluß von Fußcontrollern und Fußschaltern. Auf der Rückseite können Sie Controller anschließen, um verschiedene Parameter mit dem Fuß oder auch manuell zu steuern.
Hauptfunktionen Fußcontroller Einem an die Buchsen FOOT CONTROLLER (Seite 18) auf der Rückseite angeschlossenen Fußcontroller (Sonderzubehör, z. B. FC7) können verschiedene Controller-Parameter zugewiesen werden. Dadurch haben Sie beide Hände frei, um auf der Tastatur zu spielen (oder um andere Regler zu bedienen) — was besonders praktisch ist, wenn Sie live spielen. HINWEIS Die Parameter für den Fußcontroller sind für jede Voice separat einstellbar.

Bearbeiten von Voices Bearbeiten von Voices Im Voice Play-Modus können Sie nicht nur Voices spielen, sondern auch eine Vielzahl an grundlegenden, leistungsfähigen Bearbeitungsvorgängen an den Voices vornehmen. Sie können beispielsweise die EG-Einstellungen ändern, um die Voice mit einer weicheren oder härteren Attack zu versehen oder sie mit einer längeren Release Time länger ausklingen zu lassen. Für das Filter können Sie ähnliche Einstellungen vornehmen und damit den Klang der Voice verändern.
Bearbeiten von Voices Voice-Bearbeitung mit den Reglern (Knobs) Referenz (Seite 132) Mit Hilfe dieser Regler (englisch: Knobs) können Sie verschiedene Soundaspekte der Voice in Echtzeit ändern, also während Ihres Spiels. Voice Edit-Modus Bestimmt, ob die Arpeggio-Wiedergabe „gehalten“ (englisch: Hold) wird oder nicht. Ist dieser Parameter aktiviert („on“), wird das Arpeggio automatisch wiederholt, auch wenn Sie die Tasten loslassen. Das Arpeggio wird so lange wiedergegeben, bis Sie die nächste Taste drücken. ❏ Einstellungen syncoff (siehe unten), off, on syncoff Beim ersten Drücken einer Taste wird die erste Note des Arpeggiator-Patterns gespielt.
Voice Edit-Modus • Unit Hier können Sie die Wiedergabezeit des Arpeggios einstellen. Wenn Sie beispielsweise einen Wert von 200% einstellen, wird die Wiedergabezeit verdoppelt und das Tempo halbiert. Im Gegensatz dazu wird bei einem Wert von 50% die Wiedergabezeit halbiert und das Tempo verdoppelt. Die normale Wiedergabezeit entspricht einem Wert von 100%.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F5]-[SF1] Normal Common LFO Wave • Key On Reset Bestimmt, ob der LFO bei jedem Anschlag einer Taste (englisch: Key on) zurückgesetzt (englisch: Reset) wird. Es stehen die folgenden drei Einstellungen zur Verfügung: ❏ Einstellungen off, each-on, 1st-on off Der LFO schwingt ohne Tastensynchronisation. Durch das Drücken einer Taste wird die Wave des LFOs gestartet, unabhängig von der Phase des LFOs zu diesem Zeitpunkt.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F5]-[SF2] Normal Common LFO Delay • FadeOutTime In diesem Display können Sie verschiedene Parameter für Delay und Fade-In/-Out einstellen und dem LFO einen natürlicheren Klang verleihen. Hier können Sie einstellen, über welchen Zeitraum der LFO ausgeblendet (englisch: Fade-Out) werden soll (nachdem die HoldTime verstrichen ist). Je höher der Wert, desto langsamer das Fade-Out.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F6]-[SF1] Normal Common Effect Connection Dieses Display enthält umfassende Regelmöglichkeiten für die Effekte. • ChoRtn (Chorus Return Level) Bestimmt den Return-Level des Chorus Effects. ❏ Wertebereich 0 ~ 127 • ChoToRev (Chorus to Reverb) Bestimmt den Pegel des Signals, das vom Chorus Effect an den Reverb Effect gesendet wird. ❏ Wertebereich 0 ~ 127 • RevPan (Reverb Pan) Bestimmt die Panoramaposition des Reverb Effects im Stereofeld.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F1]-[SF2] Normal Element Oscillator Output In diesem Display können Sie bestimmte Ausgabeparameter für das ausgewählte Element festlegen. • KeyOnDelay Bestimmt die Verzögerungszeit („Delay“) zwischen dem Anschlagen einer Taste auf der Tastatur („Key On“) und dem tatsächlichen Zeitpunkt des Erklingens des Sounds. Sie können unterschiedliche KeyOnDelays für die einzelnen Elements einstellen.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F2]-[SF2] Normal Element Pitch Velocity Sensitivity In diesem Display können Sie festlegen, wie der Pitch EG (Tonhöhen-Hüllkurvengenerator) auf die Velocity reagiert. (Die Parameter des Pitch EGs finden Sie unter „PEG Time, Level“ weiter unten.) In der folgenden Tabelle sind die vollständigen Namen der im Display zur Verfügung stehenden Parameter aufgeführt.
Voice Edit-Modus ● [F3]-[SF1] Normal Element Filter Type • Center Key Bestimmt die Ausgangsnote oder -tonhöhe für den KeyFollow-Effekt der Tonhöhe. In Abhängigkeit vom oben erwähnten Parameter Pitch Sensitivity ist die Änderung der Tonhöhe um so größer, je weiter die gespielten Tasten vom Central Key entfernt sind. ❏ Wertebereich C-2 ~ G8 HINWEIS Grundlegender Aufbau auf Seite 46 In diesem Display können Sie umfassende Einstellungen für das Filter vornehmen.
Voice Edit-Modus LPF12 (Low Pass Filter 12dB/Okt.) Ein zweipoliges (-12dB/Okt.) dynamisches Tiefpaßfilter, das in Kombination mit einem HPF (High Pass Filter - Hochpaßfilter) eingesetzt wird. Resonance BPFw (Band Pass Filter Wide) Ebenfalls eine Kombination aus je einem -12dB/Okt. Hochpaß- und Tiefpaßfilter, läßt jedoch ein breiteres (englisch: Wide) Frequenzband als das BPF12D-Filter passieren.
Voice Edit-Modus Dual BEF Eine Parallelschaltung von zwei Bandsperrfiltern mit 6dB/Okt. Pegel Frequenz Distance Die Cutoff-Frequenz kann direkt auf dem Display eingestellt werden. LPF12 (Low Pass Filter 12dB/Okt.) + HPF12 (High Pass Filter) Eine Kombination aus einem Tiefpaßfilter und einem Hochpaßfilter. • Reso/Width Die Funktion dieses Parameters ist abhängig vom gewählten Filter Type.
Voice Edit-Modus Bestimmt die Anschlagsempfindlichkeit (englisch: Velocity Sensitivity) der Time-Parameter des FEG. Wählen Sie ein Segment aus, und stellen Sie dann dessen EG Time-Parameter ein. Positive Werte für EG Time führen bei höherer Velocity zu einer schnelleren Wiedergabe des gewählten Segments, negative Werte zu einer langsameren Wiedergabe. ❏ Wertebereich EG Time -64 ~0 ~+63 Segment ATK, ATK+DCY, DCY, ATK+RLS, all ATK Beeinflußt die Attack Time.
Voice Edit-Modus Ein positiver Wert senkt die Cutoff-Frequenz für tiefere Noten ab und hebt sie für höhere Noten an. Die verschiedenen Offset-Werte für die gewählten Break Points ändern den Ausgangswert entsprechend. Diese Änderungen der Amplitude sind in der Grafik unten dargestellt. Wie Sie sehen, wird die Amplitude zwischen benachbarten Break Points linear geändert.

Positive Werte bewirken, daß die Cutoff-Frequenz um so höher ansteigt, je härter Sie die Tastatur anschlagen, negative Werte bewirken ein Abfallen der Frequenz.

Song Edit-Modus ■ Program Change Diese Events bestimmen die ausgewählte Voice für die Notendaten. Beachten Sie, daß Program ChangeEvents an jeder beliebigen Stelle eines Song Tracks eingefügt werden können. Somit können Sie auch mitten im Song zwischen den Voices wechseln. Bank Select MSB HINWEIS Einzelheiten zur Verwendung von Control Change-Nummern (einschließlich der oben erwähnten) finden Sie in der separaten Datenliste.
Song Edit-Modus • RPN MSB-LSB ❏ Wertebereich 000 ~ 127 • Data Entry MSB-LSB ❏ Wertebereich HINWEIS 000 ~ 127 Normalerweise werden drei Typen von Control Change-Daten gesendet: RPN MSB (101), RPN LSB (100) und Data Entry MSB (6). Im MOTIF wurde der Typ Data Entry LSB (38) hinzugefügt. Die sich daraus ergebende Gruppe der Control Change-Events wird einheitlich in diesem Display bearbeitet.
Song Job-Modus Song Job-Modus Der Song Job-Modus enthält eine umfassende Gruppe von Bearbeitungswerkzeugen und Funktionen, mit denen Sie den Song verändern können. Außerdem enthält dieser Modus eine Vielzahl hilfreicher Vorgänge wie z.B. das Kopieren und das Löschen von Daten. Die meisten dieser Vorgänge können für einen vollständigen Track oder für ausgewählte Taktbereiche eines Tracks ausgeführt werden.
Song Job-Modus ● [F2]-01 Quantize Quantisierung nennt man den Vorgang des Angleichens des Timings von Noten-Events - dabei werden die Noten näher an den nächstliegenden exakten Beat verschoben. Mit Hilfe dieser Funktion können Sie z.B. das Timing einer in Echtzeit aufgenommenen Melodie verbessern. Track Bei einem Quantize-Wert von , , , :50%~75% Eine Einstellung von 100% entspricht der doppelten Länge des angegebenen Quantize-Wertes.
Song Job-Modus ● [F2]-02 Modify Velocity ● [F2]-03 Modify Gate Time Durch diesen Job werden die Velocity-Werte des angegebenen Notenbereichs geändert. Dadurch können Sie die Lautstärke dieser Noten selektiv erhöhen bzw. verringern. Die Änderung der Velocity wird wie folgt berechnet: Geänderte Velocity = (ursprüngliche Velocity x Rate) + Offset. Falls das Ergebnis gleich 0 oder kleiner ist, wird der Wert auf 1 gesetzt. Falls das Ergebnis größer als 127 ist, wird der Wert auf 127 gesetzt.
Song Job-Modus ● [F2]-04 Crescendo ● [F2]-06 Glide Mit diesem Job können Sie ein Crescendo oder ein Decrescendo über den angegebenen Notenbereich erstellen. (Ein Crescendo ist eine allmähliche Erhöhung der Lautstärke, ein Decrescendo ist eine allmähliche Verringerung der Lautstärke.) Track Durch den Glide-Job werden alle Noten nach der ersten Note im angegebenen Bereich durch Pitch Bend-Daten ersetzt, wobei ein sanftes Gleiten (englisch: Glide) von Note zu Note entsteht.
Song Job-Modus ● [F2]-08 Sort Chord Roll Step (Clock) In diesem Beispiel verkürzt sich der Abstand zwischen den einzelnen Noten des Rolls über seine Zeitdauer. Start Step EndStep Takt 004:1:240 Dieser Job sortiert Akkorde (gleichzeitige NotenEvents) nach Tonhöhe. Durch das Sortieren ändert sich die Reihenfolge der Noten im Event List-Display (Seite 190), das Timing der Noten wird jedoch nicht beeinflußt.
Song Job-Modus ● [F2]-09 Separate Chord Track Bereich Dieser Job schiebt Noten in Akkorden innerhalb des vorgegebenen Bereichs ein wenig auseinander, indem eine vorgegebene Anzahl von Clocks zwischen den einzelnen Noten eingefügt wird. Mit Hilfe dieses Jobs können Sie nach Ausführung des Chord Sort-Jobs (siehe oben) gitarrenähnliche Aufwärts- und Abwärtsanschläge erzeugen.
Song Job-Modus ● [F3]-03 Erase Event Mit diesem Job werden alle angegebenen Events im angegebenen Bereich gelöscht, wodurch auf effektive Weise ein lautloses Segment erzeugt werden kann.
Song Job-Modus • Event Type • Number Of Times Bestimmt, wie viele Male das Erstellen der Daten wiederholt wird. Beispiel: Wenn Daten im Bereich M001:1:000 ~ M003:1:000 erstellt werden und dieser Parameter auf 03 eingestellt ist, werden dieselben Daten auch in den Bereichen M003:1:000 ~ M005:1:000 und M005:1:000 ~ M007:1:000 erstellt. Mit diesem Job können Sie beispielsweise kontinuierliche Variationen der Lautstärke oder der Filter Cutoff-Frequenz einfügen, um Tremolo- oder Wah-Effekte zu erzeugen.
Song Job-Modus [F4] Measure Job HINWEIS Drücken Sie in Schritt 3 der Allgemeinen Vorgehensweise auf Seite 193 die Taste [F4], um die Measure Jobliste im Display aufzurufen. Bewegen Sie den Cursor auf den gewünschten Job, und drücken Sie die [ENTER]-Taste, um das Display des ausgewählten Jobs aufzurufen. Falls der Insertion Point hinter dem letzten Takt liegt, der Daten enthält, werden lediglich Taktart-Daten für diese Position erstellt, ohne jedoch die Takte tatsächlich einzufügen.

Die Quantisierung richtet Noten-Events am nächstgelegenen Beat aus. Dieser Parameter bestimmt, ob die EchtzeitQuantisierung aktiviert ist oder nicht, und bestimmt die Auflösung des Quantisierungsrasters, an dem die NotenEvents ausgerichtet werden.
Pattern Edit-Modus Pattern Edit-Modus Dieser Modus bietet Ihnen umfassende und ausgefeilte Werkzeuge, um MIDI-Events in jeder Phrase eines aufgenommenen Patterns zu bearbeiten. MIDI-Events sind Nachrichten mit Spiel- und Steuerinformationen (wie etwa Note On/Off, Noten-Nummer, Program Change-Nummer), die als zeitlich strukturierte Abfolge die Daten eines aufgenommenen Patterns bilden.

Pattern Job-Modus ● [F4]-08 Clear Phrase ● [F5]-01 Copy Track Dieser Job löscht (englisch: Clear) alle Daten einer ausgewählten Phrase. Dieser Job kopiert alle Daten des ausgewählten Typs vom ausgewählten Quell-Track zum angegebenen Ziel-Track. Zu löschende Phrase (Zu kopierender) Quell-Style, -Section und -Track Wenn dieses Kästchen angekreuzt ist, werden Sample-Daten der ausgewählten Phrase gelöscht. Wenn die ausgewählte Phrase keine Sample Voice verwendet, hat dieser Parameter keine Wirkung.
Pattern Job-Modus ● [F5]-05 Divide Drum Track ● [F6]-02 Append Pattern Teilt die Noten-Events einer Schlagzeugaufnahme in separate Tracks so auf, daß als Ergebnis jedes verwendete Drum-Instrument einzeln in einem separaten Track (Tracks 1 bis 8) zur Verfügung steht.
Pattern Mixing-Modus Pattern Mixing-Modus VORSICHT Durch diesen Job werden alle bereits im Ziel-Pattern vorhandenen Daten überschrieben. HINWEIS Ist das Kästchen „KEEP ORIGINAL PHRASE“ angekreuzt, benötigt dieser Vorgang doppelt so viele leere User Phrases wie die Zahl der Tracks, die Daten enthalten, um die anzuhängenden Phrasedaten aufzunehmen. Falls nicht genug Phrases zur Verfügung stehen, erscheint eine Fehlermeldung und der Vorgang wird abgebrochen.
Funktionsbaum Sampling-Modus Grundlegender Aufbau (Seite 58) Funktionsbaum In diesem Abschnitt wird der Sampling-Modus behandelt. Wenn der Punch-In-Measure erreicht wird, beginnt das Sampling. Sampling Start Wenn der Punch-Out-Measure erreicht wird, stoppt das Sampling. Sie können das Sampling auch stoppen, indem Sie die Taste [F6] drücken.

Sampling Edit-Modus Für die Syntheseberechnungen, die bei jedem SliceVorgang ausgeführt werden, wird ein Bereich des Arbeitsspeichers benötigt, aber auch ausreichend Speicherplatz, um die komplettierten Waveforms zu behalten. Für die Sampling-Frequenz von 44,1 kHz finden Sie den für jeden Slice-Typ erforderlichen Speicherplatz (in Kilobytes) in der folgenden Übersicht.

Utility-Modus [F6] Plug-In-Board-Einstellungen MTC (MIDI Time Code) Der MOTIF wird mit einem MTC-Signal synchronisiert, das über die MIDI IN- oder USB-Schnittstelle empfangen wird. MMC-Signale werden über die MIDI OUT- oder USB-Schnittstelle gesendet. Verwenden Sie diese Einstellung, wenn der MOTIF als MIDI-Slave verwendet wird, beispielsweise bei der Synchronisation mit einem MTC-fähigen MTR. HINWEIS Die Funktion „MTC Sync“ steht nur im SongModus zur Verfügung.

Installation optionaler Hardware Drehen Sie die AIEB2 um, und achten Sie darauf, das flache Kabel nicht zu verbiegen oder zu beschädigen. Installation der mLAN8E 1 AIEB2 2 Entfernen Sie wie in den Schritten 1 - 4 in „Installation der AIEB2“ die Abdeckung auf der Unterseite des MOTIF, und nehmen Sie dann die Abdeckung vom mLAN/I/O-Erweiterungsschacht ab. Nehmen Sie die mLAN8E aus ihrer Packung, und schließen Sie das beiliegende Flachkabel an.
Installation optionaler Hardware 4 Befestigen Sie die mLAN8E im MOTIF. Drehen Sie die mLAN8E um, so daß die einzelnen Anschlüsse der mLAN8E auf der Rückseite des MOTIF gesehen werden können. Stützen Sie die Einheit mit einer Hand, und befestigen Sie sie mit den drei Schrauben, die Sie zuvor entfernt haben, an der Rückseite des MOTIF. Wenn Sie beim Einsetzen der Schrauben mit der mittleren Schraube beginnen, erleichtert dies das Einsetzen der restlichen Schrauben.
Installation optionaler Hardware 4MB X 2 Installieren der SIMM in den Sockeln 8MB X 2 Kippen Sie das SIMM, und setzen Sie es in den Sockel ein. Interner Speicher 4MB Interner Speicher 4MB 12 MB können für Sampling verwendet werden. 16MB X 2 Aussparung 32MB X 2 Interner Speicher 4MB Interner Speicher 4MB 36 MB können für Sampling verwendet werden. Drücken Sie das SIMM aufrecht. 20 MB können für Sampling verwendet werden. 64 MB können für Sampling verwendet werden.
Handhabung der Speicherkarte (SmartMedia™*) Behandeln Sie Speicherkarten vorsichtig. Beachten Sie die folgenden wichtigen Vorsichtsmaßnahmen. * SmartMedia ist ein Warenzeichen der Toshiba Corporation. ■ Kompatible Speicherkartentypen Verwenden Sie 3.3V(3V-) Speicherkarten. Speicherkarten des Types 5V sind mit diesem Instrument nicht kompatibel. ■ Speicherkapazität Es gibt fünf Arten von Speicherkarten: 2 MB/4 MB/8 MB/16 MB/32 MB.
Anschließen externer SCSI-Geräte Anschließen externer SCSI-Geräte In diesem Abschnitt wird erläutert, wie externe Geräte wie beispielsweise externe Festplattenlaufwerke, MO-Laufwerke oder CD-ROM-Laufwerke angeschlossen werden. Über SCSI SCSI („skasi“ ausgesprochen) ist die Abkürzung für Small Computer System Interface und ist eine Schnittstelle zur Datenübertragung, die von PCs und anderen Geräten verwendet wird.
Anschließen externer SCSI-Geräte 4 5 6 Schließen Sie den Terminator an den SCSI-Anschluß des letzten Geräts in der Kette an (an den nicht belegten SCSI-Anschluß).
