Setting Up Power Requirements Turning the Power On/Off Connect the AC adaptor plugs in the following order. q Set the volume to the minimum. w Press the [ ] (Standby/On) button to turn on the power. DC IN jack (page 9) q q w w AC Adaptor AC Outlet * The shape of the plug and outlet differs depending on locale. WARNING • Use the specified adaptor (page 25) only. Using the wrong adaptor can result in damage to the instrument or overheating.
Setting Up To enable the Auto Power Off function: While holding down [METRONOME/RHYTHM] and [PIANIST STYLE] simultaneously, press the A#-1 key. E3 G#3 (IAC off) F#3 (+1) A#-1 E3 (-1) F3 (0) G3 (IAC on) Setting the Operation Confirmation Sounds NOTICE • If your digital piano is connected to other equipment such as amplifiers, speakers, or a computer but you do not intend to use it for 30 minutes, we recommend that you turn off all devices as described in their owner’s manuals.
Setting Up Damper (Right) Pedal Using a Footswitch The [SUSTAIN] jack is for connecting the included footswitch, which works in the same way as a damper pedal on an acoustic piano. Also an optional FC3A foot pedal or FC4A or FC5 footswitch can be connected to this jack. The FC3A lets you use the Half Pedal function. Pressing this pedal will sustain notes longer. Releasing this pedal immediately stops (damps) any sustained notes.
Selecting & Playing Voices 2 Reference Selecting a Voice Play the keyboard. NOTE The instrument has a wide variety of Voices, or instrument sounds, for your enjoyment, including Piano and Organ. 1 Press a Voice button once or twice. Pressing the same Voice button alternates the on/off status of the lamp, changing between the Voices whose names are printed above and below the line.
Selecting & Playing Voices For example: when selecting VINTAGE EP and ROCK ORG Splitting the Keyboard (Split) You can play different Voices your left and right hands. Lamp 2 Left: Voice 1 Right: Voice 2 1 Play the keyboard to enjoy the dual sound. While holding [L], press a Voice button to engage Split. The Left Voice (Voice 2) is selected. The keyboard is divided into the two sections with the F#2 key as the Split Point.
Selecting & Playing Voices Pedal function in Duo Playing Duo The Footswitch connected to the [SUSTAIN] jack affects both Right and Left sections. The optional Pedal unit (page 12) functions as follows: • Damper Pedal: Applies Sustain to the right section. • Sostenuto Pedal: Applies Sustain to both sections. • Soft Pedal: Applies Sustain to the left section. This function allows two different players to play the instrument, one on the left and the other on the right, over the same octave range.
Setting Various Items For Performances To set items shown in the tables below, hold down the corresponding buttons or button, and press the corresponding keys on the keyboard. Refer to the Quick Operation Guide on pages 28 to 29. Tuning C#0 F#4 Description You can specify the degree of Touch Sensitivity (how the sound responds to your playing strength). Changing the Touch Sensitivity Key Transposition Keys You can shift or transpose the pitch of the entire keyboard up or down in semitones.
Playing Back Songs Listening to the Voice Demo Songs 2 Press [DEMO/SONG] again to stop playback. Special individual Demo Songs are provided for all of the Voices of the instrument. 1 While holding down [DEMO/SONG], press one of the desired Voice buttons once or twice, then release the buttons to start playback. Pressing the same Voice button alternates the on/ off status of the lamp, changing between the Voices whose names are printed above and below the line.
Using the Metronome/Rhythm The Metronome is convenient for practicing with an accurate tempo. The Metronome sound features several rhythms (page 26) as well as the conventional click sound. 1 Press [METRONOME/RHYTHM] to start the Metronome. C#6 (Intro off) D#6 (Ending off) C6 (Intro on) D6 (Ending on) 2 Press [METRONOME/RHYTHM] again to stop the Metronome.
Adding Accompaniment to Your Performance (Pianist Styles) You can automatically play rhythmic arpeggios by specifying the chord type with your left hand, while playing a melody with your right hand. 1 Press [PIANIST STYLE] so that the lamp flashes. The keyboard is divided into the Chord section (Left) and Melody section (Right). 3 Play a chord with your left hand to start playback of the Pianist Style. Play a melody with your right hand, along with the chords you play.
Recording Your Performance You can record your keyboard performance as a User Song in SMF format. Up to two Parts (L and R) can be recorded separately. NOTICE • Note that the Recording operation replaces already recorded data with the newly recorded data, since only one User Song is available. Before recording, check whether the [PLAY] lamp is lit or not. If the [PLAY] lamp is lit, already recorded data exists and you may want to save it. To save the recorded data, transfer it to a computer as an SMF.
Recording Your Performance To record the right part ([R]): To record the left part ([L]): Deleting the User Song 1 Press [REC] to engage Record Ready mode. The [REC] lamp will flash. 2 While holding down [PLAY], press [REC] so that both the lamps flash. NOTE • To exit from this status, press any other button such as [DEMO/SONG]. 3 After a while, the [REC] lamp will flash at the current tempo. If necessary, set the tempo (page 18).
Recording Your Performance 2 While holding down [REC], press the desired Part button to engage Record Ready mode. If you want to change the value of the parameters shared by two parts, select either part. NOTICE • In this status, do not press [PLAY] again or any key. Otherwise, recording starts and the data will be deleted. 3 Press [REC] again to change the initial settings and to exit from Record Ready mode.
Connecting Other Equipment CAUTION • Before connecting the instrument to other electronic components, turn off the power to all the components. Before turning the power on or off to all components, set all volume levels to minimum (0). Otherwise, electrical shock or damage to the components may result. Connecting External Speakers D4 Use these jacks to connect your digital piano to powered speakers and the like in order to play at higher volumes.
Data Backup and Initializing Connecting to a computer By connecting a computer to the [USB TO HOST] terminal, you can transfer data between the instrument and the computer via MIDI. For details on using a computer with this instrument, refer to page 8 of the “Computer-related Operations” on the website. Troubleshooting Appendix Problem Possible Cause and Solution The instrument does not turn on. The instrument has not been plugged in properly. Securely insert the female plug into the jack on the instrument, and the male plug into a proper AC outlet (page 10). The instrument is automatically turned off even if no operation is done. This is normal. This occurs due to the Auto Power Off function (page 10). Noise is heard from the speakers or headphones.
