Blinks while the automatic station preset feature is scanning for FM stations to register as presets.

CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS Remote control This section describes the function of each button on the remote control used to control this unit or other components made by Yamaha or other manufacturers. 3 ID Changes the remote control ID (see page 32). 4 DIMMER Changes the brightness level of the front panel display. Choose brightness from 3 levels by pressing this button repeatedly. y This setting is retained even if you turn off this unit. 5 SLEEP Sets the sleep timer (see page 17).

A RETURN The following buttons can be used when TUNER is selected as the input source. The following buttons can be used to control external audio/video components when CD, TAPE, PHONO, LINE1, LINE2, or LINE3 is selected as the input source. For more information, see page 33.
PREPARATION CONNECTIONS CONNECTIONS Connecting speakers and source components CAUTION • Do not connect this unit or other components to the main power until all connections between components are complete. • All connections must be correct: L (left) to L, R (right) to R, “+” to “+” and “–” to “–”. If the connections are faulty, no sound will be heard from the speakers, and if the polarity of the speaker connections is incorrect, the sound will be unnatural and lack bass.
CONNECTIONS ■ IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch CAUTION Switch position Impedance level HIGH • If you use one set (A or B), the impedance of each speaker must be 6 Ω or higher (R-S700) or 8 Ω or higher (R-S500). • If you use two sets (A and B) simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be 12 Ω or higher (R-S700) or 16 Ω or higher (R-S500). • If you make bi-wire connections, the impedance of each speaker must be 6 Ω or higher (R-S700) or 8 Ω or higher (R-S500). See page 11 for Bi-wire connection.
CONNECTIONS Connecting the FM and AM antennas Indoor antennas for receiving FM and AM broadcasts are included with this unit. In general, these antennas should provide sufficient signal strength. Connect each antenna correctly to the designated terminals. Note If you experience poor reception quality, install an outdoor antenna. Consult the nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center about outdoor antennas.

BASIC OPERATION PLAYING AND RECORDING PLAYING AND RECORDING CAUTION Extreme caution should be exercised when you play back CDs encoded in DTS. If you play back a CD encoded in DTS on a CD player that does not support DTS, only noise will be heard, and this noise may damage your speakers. Check whether your CD player supports CDs encoded in DTS. Also, check the sound output level of your CD player before you play back a CD encoded in DTS.
PLAYING AND RECORDING Adjusting the tonal quality ■ Using the CD DIRECT AMP switch (R-S700 only) CD Direct Amp feature Generates a normal phase and reverse phase signal for both the left and right channels from the input signal and uses the four electronic volumes to send a balanced signal to the amplifying circuit.

The center position produces a flat response. BASS When you feel there is not enough bass (low frequency sound), rotate clockwise to boost. When you feel there is too much bass, rotate counterclockwise to suppress.
PLAYING AND RECORDING Recording a source Using the sleep timer Notes • Audio signals are not output to the TAPE REC or LINE 1 REC output jacks when TAPE or LINE 1 is selected with the REC OUT selector. Audio signals are output to both the TAPE REC and the LINE 1 REC output jacks if when PHONO, DOCK, TUNER, CD, SOURCE or LINE 2 is selected with the REC OUT selector. • This unit must be turned on in order to record.
FM/AM TUNING FM/AM TUNING There are 2 tuning methods; automatic and manual. Select either method according to your preference and the strength of station signals. Note Be sure to set the tuner frequency step according to the frequency spacing in your area before you tune into a radio station. See page 31 for the tuner frequency step setting. Automatic tuning 3 Automatic tuning is effective when station signals are strong and there is no interference.
FM/AM TUNING Manual tuning 4 Manual tuning is effective when station signals are weak. To tune in by direct frequency tuning, press the numeric buttons on the remote control to enter the frequency of the station. Enter only integers. For example, if you want to set the frequency to 88.90 MHz, enter “8890”. Notes INPUT selector TUNING jj / ii FM, AM • When you press the numeric buttons on the remote control during preset tuning, a preset number is selected.
FM/AM TUNING Automatic station preset (FM stations only) You can use the automatic station preset function to automatically register FM stations as presets. This function enables this unit to automatically tune in to FM stations that have a strong signal and store up to 40 of those stations in order. You can then easily recall any preset station by selecting its preset number. 3 Press OPTION on the remote control. The Option menu for TUNER is displayed (see page 29).
FM/AM TUNING Manual station preset You can manually register up to 40 FM/AM stations (40 total). You can then easily recall any preset station by selecting its preset number. 1 Tune in to the desired FM/AM station. See pages 18 and 19 for tuning instructions. 2 Press MEMORY on the front panel. “MANUAL PRESET” is displayed briefly on the front panel display, and then the preset number to which the station will be registered is displayed.
FM/AM TUNING Recalling a preset station You can recall preset stations that were registered using automatic station preset or manual station preset. Clearing a preset station Follow the steps below to clear a preset station. CLEAR PRESET j / i PRESET F / G 1 Press PRESET j / i on the front panel (or PRESET F / G on the remote control) to select a preset number. RETURN 1 Select the desired preset station number. See “Recalling a preset station” on page 22. 2 Press CLEAR on the front panel.
FM/AM TUNING Clearing all preset stations 4 Follow the steps below to clear all preset stations. Press D / E on the remote control to select “YES”, and then press ENTER. y To cancel without clearing the presets, select “NO”. When all presets have been cleared, “PRESET CLEARED” is displayed, and then the display returns to the Option menu. INPUT selector TUNER 5 To exit the Option menu, press OPTION or RETURN on the remote control.

REMOTE ID Choices: ID1, ID2* Changes the remote control ID of this unit. • Select ID1 to operate this unit using an alternative code. • Select ID2 to operate this unit using the default code.
ADVANCED SETUP Switching the remote control ID When using multiple Yamaha receivers or amplifiers with the same default code setting, you may unintentionally operate those components simultaneously. In this case, set one of the alternative codes for this unit to operate this unit separately. 1 2 ID • Switching to ID1 Press and hold the ID button and the numeric button “1” on the remote control together for about 3 seconds.
REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES The remote control can be used to control not only this unit, but also seven other audio-visual components (TV, DVD player, VCR, etc.) made by Yamaha and other manufacturers. To control other components with this unit’s remote control, you must first configure the remote control to control each component (see page 35).
REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES Notes • When using only one TV: Assign the TV’s remote control code to the TV A button. The TV control buttons always control your TV, regardless of the selected input source. • To use other buttons (*1, above) to control your TV: Assign the TV’s remote control code to the TV A button, and also to an input selector button. The TV control buttons always control your TV, regardless of the selected input source.
REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES ■ Assigning remote control codes Configuring the remote control To use this unit’s remote control to control other components (TV, DVD player, VCR, etc.), determine the remote control code that corresponds to the component and assign that code to the desired input selector button on the remote control. Remote control codes are listed in the “LIST OF REMOTE CONTROL CODES” at the end of this manual.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TROUBLESHOOTING TROUBLESHOOTING Refer to the chart below if this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instructions below do not help, turn off this unit, disconnect the power cable, and contact the nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center. ■ General Problem This unit fails to turn on. No sound The sound suddenly goes off. Only the speaker on one side can be heard. There is a lack of bass and no ambience.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Cause Remedy See page Incorrect cable connections. Connect the audio plugs firmly. If the problem persists, the cables may be defective. 10 No connection from the turntable to the GND terminal. Make the GND connection between the turntable and this unit. 10 The volume level is low while playing a record. The record is being played on a turntable with an MC cartridge. The turntable should be connected to this unit through the MC head amplifier.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem FM/ AM AM Cause Remedy The desired frequency cannot be tuned in. Incorrect setting for the tuning step. NO PRESETS is displayed. No preset stations are registered. Register stations you want to listen to as preset stations before operation. WRONG STATION is displayed. An invalid FM/AM frequency has been input. Input a frequency that can be received. The desired station cannot be tuned in with the automatic tuning method.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem When using the Universal Dock for iPod: Your iPhone/iPod is not being charged even though it is connected to the Universal Dock for iPod. When using the Wireless System for iPod: Your iPhone/iPod is not being charged even though the YID-W10 transmitter connected to your iPhone/iPod is stationed in the YID-W10 receiver. Cause Remedy This unit is not turned on. Turn on this unit or set it to standby mode. The iPhone/iPod is not connected securely.
TROUBLESHOOTING ■ Remote control Problem The remote control does not work nor function properly. 40 En Remedy See page The remote control will function within a maximum range of 6 m (20 ft) and no more than 30 degrees offaxis from the front panel. 9 Cause Wrong distance or angle. Direct sunlight or lighting (from an inverter type of fluorescent lamp, etc.) is striking the remote control sensor of this unit. Reposition this unit. The batteries are weak. Replace all batteries.

La posición central produce una respuesta plana. BASS Cuando note que no hay suficientes graves (sonido de baja frecuencia), gire el control en el sentido de las agujas del reloj para potenciarlos. Si nota que hay demasiados graves, gire el control en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj para mitigarlos.
REPRODUCCIÓN Y GRABACIÓN Grabación de una fuente Notas • Las señales de audio no se emiten en las tomas de salida TAPE REC o LINE 1 REC cuando se selecciona TAPE o LINE 1 con el selector REC OUT. Las señales de audio se emiten a las tomas de salida TAPE REC y LINE 1 REC si se selecciona PHONO, DOCK, TUNER, CD, SOURCE o LINE 2 con el selector REC OUT. • La unidad debe encenderse para poder grabar.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Hay 2 métodos de sintonización: automática y manual. Seleccione cualquiera de los dos según sus preferencias y la fuerza de las señales de la emisora. Nota Asegúrese de establecer el paso de frecuencias del sintonizador según la separación de frecuencias de su zona antes de sintonizar una emisora de radio. Vea la página 31 para conocer el ajuste del paso de frecuencias del sintonizador.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Sintonización manual 4 La sintonización manual es eficaz cuando las señales de la emisora son débiles. Para sintonizar una emisora indicando directamente la frecuencia, pulse los botones numéricos del mando a distancia para introducir la frecuencia de la emisora. Introduzca únicamente números enteros. Por ejemplo, si desea ajustar la frecuencia 88,90 MHz, introduzca “8890”.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Presintonización automática de emisoras (sólo emisoras de FM) Puede utilizar la función de presintonización automática de emisoras para registrar automáticamente emisoras de FM como presintonías. Esta función permite a la unidad sintonizar automáticamente emisoras de FM con una señal fuerte y almacenar hasta 40 emisoras en orden. Así podrá recuperar fácilmente cualquier emisora presintonizada seleccionando su número de presintonía. 3 Pulse OPTION en el mando a distancia.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Presintonización manual de las emisoras Puede registrar manualmente hasta 40 emisoras de FM/ AM (40 en total). Así podrá recuperar fácilmente cualquier emisora presintonizada seleccionando su número de presintonía. 1 Sintonice la emisora de FM/AM deseada. Vea las páginas 18 y 19 para obtener instrucciones sobre la sintonización. 2 Pulse MEMORY en el panel frontal.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Recuperación de una emisora presintonizada Borrar una emisora presintonizada Siga estos pasos para borrar una emisora presintonizada. Puede recuperar emisoras presintonizadas registradas utilizando la presintonización automática o manual de emisoras. CLEAR PRESET j / i RETURN PRESET F / G 1 Pulse PRESET j / i en el panel frontal (o PRESET F / G en el mando a distancia) para seleccionar un número de presintonía. 1 Seleccione el número de emisora presintonizada.
SINTONIZACIÓN DE FM/AM Borrado de todas las emisoras presintonizadas 4 Siga estos pasos para borrar todas las emisoras presintonizadas. Pulse D / E en el mando a distancia para seleccionar “YES” y, a continuación, pulse ENTER. y Para cancelar sin borrar las presintonías, seleccione “NO”. Cuando se hayan borrado todas las presintonías, aparecerá “PRESET CLEARED” y la pantalla regresará al menú Option. REPRODUCCIÓN DE TEMAS DESDE UN COMPONENTE IPHONE/IPOD/BLUETOOTH™ REPRODUCCIÓN DE TEMAS DESDE UN COMPONENTE iPhone/iPod/Bluetooth™ Una vez que haya conectado una Dock Universal Yamaha para iPod opcional (como la YDS-12), un sistema inalámbrico para iPod (YID-W10) o un receptor de audio inalámbrico (YBA-10) a la toma DOCK del panel trasero de la unidad, podrá escuchar su componente iPhone/iPod o Bluetooth usando el mando a distancia suministrado con la unidad.

En tal caso, ajuste uno de los códigos alternativos en esta unidad para poder manejarla de forma independiente. 1 2 ID • Cambio a ID1 Mantenga presionados el botón ID y el botón numérico “1” del mando a distancia a la vez durante unos 3 segundos.
CARACTERÍSTICAS DEL MANDO A DISTANCIA CARACTERÍSTICAS DEL MANDO A DISTANCIA El mando a distancia puede utilizarse no sólo para controlar esta unidad, sino otros siete componentes audiovisuales (televisor, reproductor de DVD, vídeo, etc.) de Yamaha y otros fabricantes. Para controlar otros componentes con el mando a distancia de la unidad, primero debe configurar el mando a distancia para controlar cada componente (vea la página 35).
CARACTERÍSTICAS DEL MANDO A DISTANCIA Notas • Al usar sólo un televisor: asigne el código del mando a distancia del televisor al botón TV A. Los botones del control del televisor siempre controlan el televisor, independientemente de la fuente de entrada seleccionada. • Para usar otros botones (*1, arriba) para controlar el televisor: asigne el código del mando a distancia del televisor al botón TV A y también a un botón de selección de entrada.
CARACTERÍSTICAS DEL MANDO A DISTANCIA ■ Asignación de códigos de mando a distancia Configuración del mando a distancia Para usar el mando a distancia de esta unidad para controlar otros componentes (televisor, reproductor de DVD, vídeo, etc.), determine el código de mando a distancia correspondiente al componente y asígnelo al botón de selección de entrada deseado en el mando a distancia. Los códigos del mando a distancia se enumeran en la “LISTA DE CÓDIGOS DE MANDO A DISTANCIA” al final de este manual.

Si se utiliza el sistema inalámbrico para iPod: El iPhone/iPod no se está cargando aunque el transmisor YID-W10 conectado al iPhone/iPod está colocado en el receptor YID-W10. Causa Remedio La unidad no está encendida. Encienda la unidad o póngala en modo de espera. El iPhone/iPod no está conectado de forma segura.
