Dolby’s newest surround technology “Dolby Atmos” is now supported.
By playing back Dolby Atmos contents, you can enjoy realistic sound from any
direction including from overhead, bringing astounding clarity and power to home
theaters, and providing a detailed and deep experience that's just like real life.
The unit also supports Dolby Surround, which can create a real acoustic space
(including overhead) even when a conventional content is played.
To get the most from Dolby Atmos contents, follow the procedure below to lay out the
speakers and configure the settings.
Speaker layout/settings and playback procedure
a Placing speakers
To play Dolby Atmos contents on the unit, use one of the following speaker systems. We
recommend using two (front set) or four (front and rear sets) presence speakers in
addition to the standard 5.1- or 7.1-channel speaker system.
*1 (About the number of channels) For example, “5.1.2” denotes “standard 5.1-channel plus 2 for overhead
speaker channels”.
*2 (RX-A3040/RX-V3077 only) Use an external power amplifier to build an extended system.
*3 You can use up to 2 subwoofers (subwoofer use is optional).
❑ Presence speaker layout
The unit provides three layout patterns for presence speakers (Front Height/Rear
Height, Overhead and Dolby Enabled SP). Choose a layout pattern that suits your
listening environment.
• You can enjoy Dolby Atmos or Cinema DSP HD
3
/Cinema DSP 3D with any layout pattern.
• You can configure the layout patterns for front presence and rear presence speakers separately.
Front Height/Rear Height
Select this option when presence speakers are installed on the front/rear side wall.
It delivers a natural sound field with excellent linkage of left, right, top and bottom
sound spaces, and sound extensity effectively.
Overhead
Select this option when presence speakers are installed to the ceiling above the
listening position. It delivers realistic overhead sound effects and sound field with
excellent linkage of front and rear sound spaces effectively.
• For details on the installation position of ceiling speakers, refer to “Notes on installation of ceiling speakers”.
