Enjoying unprocessed playback
You can play back input sources without any sound field effect processing.

Playing back in original channels (straight decode)
When the straight decode mode is enabled, the unit produces stereo sound from the
front speakers for 2-channel sources such as CDs, and produces unprocessed
multichannel sounds for multichannel sources.

Press STRAIGHT.
Each time you press the key, the straight decode mode is enabled or
disabled.

If “Virtual CINEMA FRONT” (p.88) in the “Setup” menu is set to “On”, Virtual CINEMA FRONT (p.52) works
when multichannel source is played back.

Playing back 2-channel sources in multichannel
(surround decoder)
The surround decoder enables unprocessed multichannel playback from 2-channel
sources. When a multichannel source is input, it works the same way as the straight
decode mode.
For details on each decoder see “Glossary” (p.119).

Press PROGRAM repeatedly to select a surround decoder.
The previously selected surround decoder is selected. You can change
the surround decoder in “Sur.Decode
” (p.78) in the “Option” menu.

Auto
Uses the decoder automatically selected by input source. The
DTS Neural:X decoder is selected for DTS sources and the Dolby
Surround decoder is selected for other sources.
bDsur
Use the Dolby Surround decoder suitable for all sources. A real
acoustic space (including overhead) will be created especially
when object-based audio (such as Dolby Atmos content) is
played.
Neural:X
Use the DTS Neural:X decoder suitable for all sources. A real
acoustic space (including overhead) will be created especially
when object-based audio (such as DTS:X content) is played.
Neo:6 Cinema
Uses the DTS Neo:6 decoder (or DTS-ES Matrix decoder)
suitable for movies. Sounds will be output from the surround/
surround back speakers.
Neo:6 Music
Uses the DTS Neo:6 decoder (or DTS-ES Matrix decoder)
suitable for music. Sounds will be output from the surround/
surround back speakers.
Note
▪ You can adjust the surround decoder parameters in “DSP Parameter” (p.92) in the “Setup” menu.
▪ When the Dolby Surround decoder is selected, virtual surround processing (such as Virtual CINEMA
FRONT) (p.51) or Compressed Music Enhancer (p.54) does not work.
▪ If the Dolby Surround decoder is selected when only one surround back speaker is used, no sound is
output from the surround back speaker (except when a Dolby Atmos content is played).
▪ When the Neural:X decoder is selected, Dialogue Level (p.93), Extra Bass (p.87) or Compressed
Music Enhancer (p.
54) does not work.
▪ The selected surround decoder may not work for some input sources.
