CONNECTIONS CONNECTIONS CAUTION Do not connect this unit or other components to the mains power until all connections are complete. Connecting the AM and FM antennas Both AM and FM indoor antennas are included with this unit. In general, these antennas should provide sufficient signal strength. Connect each antenna correctly to the designated terminals. Indoor FM antenna (included) Outdoor FM antenna Outdoor AM antenna Use a 5 to 10 m of vinylcovered wire extended outdoors from a window.
CONNECTIONS ■ Connecting the AM loop antenna 1 Set up the AM loop antenna. ■ Connecting the indoor FM antenna Insert the rectangular end of the indoor FM antenna into the FM ANT terminal. FM ANT GND AM ANT 75Ω UNBAL Indoor FM antenna 2 Press down the tab to insert the AM loop antenna lead wires into the AM ANT and GND terminals and then snap the tab back into place to fasten the wires.
CONNECTIONS ■ Connecting a coaxial cable to the 75-ohm/300-ohm antenna adapter (included for U.K. model only) 1 Open the cover of the included 75-ohm/300-ohm antenna adapter. 2 Cut the external sleeve of the 75-ohm coaxial cable and prepare it for connection. 3 4 11 8 6 Cut the lead wire and remove it. Insert the cable wire into the slot, and clamp it with pliers.

CONNECTIONS Connecting the power supply cord ■ Connecting the AC power cord Plug the power cord into an AC wall outlet. ■ Memory back-up Turning on the power When all connections are complete, turn on the power of this unit. POWER The memory back-up circuit prevents the stored data from being lost. However, the stored data will be lost if this unit is turned off for more than one week even when the power cord is connected.
TUNING TUNING ■ Manual tuning Automatic and manual tuning There are 2 tuning methods; automatic and manual. Automatic tuning is effective when station signals are strong and there is no interference. If the signal from the station you want to select is weak, tune into it manually. Manually tuning into an FM station will automatically switch the tuner to monaural reception to increase the signal quality.
TUNING Notes Presetting stations ■ Automatically presetting FM stations You can use the automatic preset tuning feature to store FM stations. This function enables this unit to automatically tune into FM stations with strong signals, and to store up to 40 (8 stations in 5 groups, A1 through E8) of those stations in order. You can then recall any preset station easily by selecting the preset station number.

TUNING Selecting preset stations Exchanging preset stations You can tune any desired station simply by selecting the preset station number under which it was stored. FREQ/TEXT EON FM/MW/LW EDIT MEMORY TUNING MODE START MAN'L/AUTO FM AUTO/MAN'L PTY SEEK MODE You can exchange the assignment of two preset stations with each other. The example below describes the procedure for exchanging preset station “E1” with “A5”.
TUNING 4 Press EDIT again. The stations stored at the two preset assignments are exchanged. Receiving Radio Data System stations Radio Data System is a data transmission system used by FM stations in many countries. The Radio Data System function is carried out among the network stations.
TUNING ■ RT (Radio Text) mode Displays information about the program (such as the title of the song or name of the singer) on the Radio Data System station being received using a maximum of 64 alphanumeric characters, including the umlaut symbol. If other characters are used for RT data, they are displayed with an underbar ( _ ). If the station does not employ the RT data service, this mode will not be selected. ■ CT (Clock Time) mode Displays the current time, and is updated every minute.
TUNING PTY SEEK function 3 If you select the desired program type, this unit automatically searches all preset Radio Data System stations that are broadcasting a program of the required type. There are currently 15 program classifications available (see page 15). 1 3 Press PTY SEEK START to begin searching all preset Radio Data System stations. The selected program type flashes and the PTY HOLD indicator lights up in the front panel display while searching for stations.
TUNING EON function This function uses the EON data service on the Radio Data System station network. If you select the desired program type (NEWS, INFO, AFFAIRS or SPORT), this unit automatically searches for all preset Radio Data System stations that are scheduled to broadcast the selected type of program and switches from the station currently being received to the new station when the broadcast starts.
TROUBLESHOOTING TROUBLESHOOTING Refer to the chart below when this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instruction below does not help, turn off the power of this unit, disconnect the power cord, and contact the nearest authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center. ■ Tuner Problem FM Remedy Refer to page There are occasional crackling noises (especially in weak signal areas).
TROUBLESHOOTING ■ General Problem Cause Remedy This unit fails to turn on when POWER is pressed. The power cord is not connected or the plug is not completely inserted. Connect the power cord firmly. This unit has been exposed to a strong external electric shock (such as lightning or strong static electricity). Disconnect the power cord, plug it back in after 30 seconds, then use it normally. A “humming” sound can be heard. Incorrect cable connections.
