TROUBLESHOOTING
The battery is not being charged.
Check:
1.
main fuse
2.
battery
3. charging voltage
4.
stator coil resistance
5. wiring connections
(of the entire charging system)
NOTE:
8 Before troubleshooting, remove the follow-
ing part(s):
1.
battery cover/front cover
2.
side cover(right)
3. front fork upper cover
4.
front fork cover(left and right)
5. leg shield1
8 Troubleshoot with the following special
tool(s).
Digital tachometer

Pocket tester

Main fuse
Check the fuse for continuity.
Refer to “CHECKING THE FUSE in chap-
ter 3.
Is the fuse OK?
YES

NO
Replace the fuse.

2.
Battery
Check the condition of the battery.
Refer to “CHECKING AND CHARGING
THE BATTERY in chapter 3.

Minimum open-circuit voltage
12.8 V or more at 20°C (68°F)
Is the battery OK?
V
YES

NO
Clean the battery ter-
minals.
Recharge or replace
the battery.

3. Charging voltage
Connect the digital tachometer to the spark
plug lead of cylinder.
Connect the pocket tester (DC 20 V) to the
battery as shown.
Positive tester probe
terminal
Negative tester probe
terminal
positive battery
negative battery
Start the engine and let it run at approxi-
mately 5,000 r/min.
Measure the charging voltage.

14 V at 5000r/min
