overthebrakepad.Thearrowontheshim
mustbeinthe turning direction ofthewheel.
b.Removebrakeleverandspring.
c.Removebrakehose.
B. CaliperDisassembly(FrontandRear)
1. Removecaliper brake hose.Allowcaliper as -
semblytodraininto a container.
2. Placetheopenhose end intothecontainer and
pump the oldfluidout.
3. Removecalipersupportboltand pad securing
screw as inCaliper Pad Replacementpro -
cedure.
4. Removecaliperassemblyfromcaliper frame.
5. Removeretainingringand dust seal.
6. Carefully force thepistonoutofthecaliper
cylinderwithcompressed air. Nevertry to pry
outthepiston.
CAUTION:Coverthepistonwitharag.Use
caresothatpistondoesnotcauseinjuryasit
isexpelledfromthecylinder.
7. Removepistonseal.
d. Remove mastercylinderfromhandlebars. Re -
movecap and drainremainingfluid.
2. Rear
a. Removebrakehose.
b. Remove two (2) bolts holding mastercylinder
toframe.Removereservoircap and drain
brakefluid.
NOTE: Thefollowingsteps 3 and 5 applyto
bothfrontand rear systems.
3. Remove master cylinderdustboot,
4. Removesnapring.
C.MasterCylinderDisassembly
1. Front
a. Disconnect brake lightwire.
5. Remove master cylinder cup assembly.Note
thatthecylindercupsareinstalledwiththe
larger diameter(lips)insertedfirst.
