Their safe use and operation are dependent upon the use of proper riding techniques as well as the expertise of the operator. Every operator should know the following requirements before riding this motorcycle.

EAU34341 (Parking) The steering is locked, and the taillight, license plate light and auxiliary light are on. The hazard lights and turn signal lights can be turned on, but all other electrical systems are off. The key can be removed. The steering must be locked before the key can be turned to “ ”.

When this occurs, refuel as soon as possible. The electrical circuit of the warning light can be checked by turning the key to “ON”. If the warning light does not come on for a few seconds, then go off, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.

To decrease the spring preload and thereby soften the suspension, turn the adjusting ring in direction (b).

Consider the following tips to reduce fuel consumption: ● Shift up swiftly, and avoid high engine speeds during acceleration. ● Do not rev the engine while shifting down, and avoid high engine speeds with no load on the engine. ● Turn the engine off instead of letting it idle for an extended length of time (e.g.

Safety is an obligation of the vehicle owner/operator. The most important points of vehicle inspection, adjustment, and lubrication are explained on the following pages. The intervals given in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart should be simply considered as a general guide under normal riding conditions.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT Before installing a spark plug, the spark plug gap should be measured with a wire thickness gauge and, if necessary, adjusted to specification. installing a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct torque is 1/4–1/2 turn past finger tight. However, the spark plug should be tightened to the specified torque as soon as possible. EAU47110 Engine oil and oil filter cartridge The engine oil level should be checked before each ride.

Do not use oils with a diesel specification of “CD” or oils of a higher quality than specified. In addition, do not use oils labeled “ENERGY CONSERVING II” or higher.

A soft or spongy feeling in the brake lever can indicate the presence of air in the hydraulic system. If there is air in the hydraulic system, have a Yamaha dealer bleed the system before operating the motorcycle.

However, if the brake fluid level goes down suddenly, have a Yamaha dealer check the cause.
