Walk Gate Installation Instructions
For residential applications, single walk gates are generally used for people to pass through. These walk gate are easy to install and provide
you with the security needed for your residence when included as part of your chain link fence. Walk gates are constructed with 12.5
gauge, 11.5 gauge, or 9 gauge galvanized fabric. The framework and fittings are also constructed from galvanized steel for long life.
Walk gates are single panel gates that hinge from one terminal post (also referred to as gate post) and latch to another. Walk gates are
installed at the same height as the chain link fence. These instructions will assist you with installation of a single panel walk gate.
Please read all instructions before proceeding. Always wear protective eye wear when assembling.
Step 1: Before you Begin
Note that there are two key measurements to consider; the gate mea-
sured width [1], and the gate measured opening [2]. These will differ
by four inches. The gate measured width is the length measured from
outside of gate frame work. The gate opening, is the length measured
from the inside of the terminal/gate posts. The gate width should
measure four inches shorter than the gate opening to allow for mounting
hardware and gate latch.
Step 2: Install the Gate Posts
NOTE: if the gate posts are already installed, measure the length of the
gate opening [2]. Purchase a gate with an actual gate width measure-
ment four inches less than the gate opening.
Measure the gate width.
Install the gate posts so that the length between the inside of the posts
is four inches greater than the gate width. Gate posts are installed in
cement, approximately two feet into the ground. Gate posts should be
installed so that they are two inches higher than the top of the gate.
Allow the gate post cement to dry [3].
Step 3: Install the Hinges
Install the post hinges on one gate post. The top post hinge will point
down, the bottom post hinge will point up [4].
Install the gate hinges on one side of the gate. Do not tighten. Slide the
gate hinges over the post hinges. Ensure that the top of the gate is in
line with the top of the chain link fence [5]. Tighten the gate hinges in
place. The gate should swing freely.
Step 4: Install the Gate Latch
Install the gate latch on the other side of the gate to complete the instal-
lation [6].
