A JIS Class 7 waterproof rating
keeps the Optio43WR watertight
even when the camera is rinsed,
splashed or submersed in water.
Despite the rugged design, the
Optio43WR captures delicate detail
with 4.0 effective megapixels, while
the 2.8X zoom lens (equivalent to a 37-104mm lens in

on the power in less than a second prior to shooting, and
a new snap shooting mode ensures sharper results from
consecutive action shots. It also features a new high-speed
CCD and innovative image processing circuitry to record
movies at the high resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and the
movie quality has been enhanced with 30fps (frames per

Samsung Digimax-V40 / Digimax-V50
With its 4.1 Megapixel CCD, the

rable to 38mm-114mm in 35mm

boasts a range of features,
including the AVATAR loading
screen, allowing users to person-
alise the loading screen by down-
loading their own own pictures
and favourite MP3 tunes. The U-CA 3 also uses the latest
Memory Stick Duo. Smaller and lighter than the original
Memory Stick, the Duo can be used with a special adaptor
with most Memory Stick devices. Offering a high 3.2 mega
pixel resolution, the U-CA 3 also provides up to a 9x zoom

White SAM120363
Sony DSC-W1
Despite its small size - a little larg-
er than a deck of cards -- the Sony
five-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot
DSC-W1 camera, belies the per-
formance within, which is largely attributed to the inclusion
of Sony's new Real Imaging Processor circuit. Designed
specifically for the special tasks of digital cameras, the new
processor aids in fast camera response times and extend-
ed battery life with up to 340 shots between power
charges. Turn the camera on and the telescoping Carl Zeiss
Vario Tessar 3X optical zoom lens fully extends in about a
second, and the large 2.5-inch color LCD screen comes to
life-signaling that the camera is ready-to-go. For those
wanting to frame a shot at eye-level, the optical viewfind-
er is also available. It also focuses and shoots full-resolu-
tion images in a little over one second intervals, and can
capture TV-quality resolution video clips up to the capacity
of an optional Memory Stick PRO flash media card.

Sony DSC-P100
The 5 megapixel Sony DSC-P100
is only 1 inch thick yet is fully
equipped for great quality digital
photography. For the first time in
a Cyber-shot P-series camera,
Sony is offering a Carl Zeiss Vario
Tessar 3X optical zoom lens to complement the high res-
olution for great picture clarity. So that pictures are cap-
tured in-focus with the proper lighting exposure, the cam-
era enlists the aid of a smart auto-focusing and exposure
system-meaning that even if the subject is off-center and
in a difficult lighting situation, the camera can automatical-
ly make the necessary adjustments. Additionally, six preset
scene modes are available so that the user can quickly
select the best setting for the shooting conditions. For
those wanting greater flexibility, the Cyber-shot P100 cam-
era also features manual flash and exposure settings, and
it accepts the VAD-PHB lens adaptor bracket allowing use
of telephoto and wide-angle conversion lenses. Available in
three striking colors (red, blue and silver), the stylish P100
camera will include a 32MB Memory Stick memory card,
InfoLithium battery and AC adapter. SONDSCP100
Sony DSC-P93 / DSC-P73 / DSC-P41
Sony has three new
CyberShot P-series digital
cameras. Like their fully-fea-
tured sibling, all cameras
offer intelligent auto-focus
and auto-exposure systems.
Additionally, the new proces-
sor enables features such as
burst mode. The DSC-P41 and -P73 models capture 4 shots
at 1.3 fps, while the DSC-P93 camera captures 9 shots at
1.2 fps. And with an optional high speed Memory Stick PRO
media card, all three cameras can capture video clips in TV
quality resolution (VGA) and motion (30fps). While both
the DSC-P41 and -P73 models come with four megapixels
of resolution, the latter features a 3X optical zoom lens.
Users looking for more will find the P93 model's five-
megapixel 3X optical zoom lens accommodates their needs
nicely. Both the P73 and P93 cameras offer manual expo-
sure control and histogram display for greater user control
in image quality. The lens' outer ring on both cameras can
be removed so that the camera can accommodate various
conversion lenses. All of these cameras come bundled with
a 16MB Memory Stick card.
All cameras available in May 2004.
Sony DPP-EX50 Printer
Sony's new DPP-EX50
PictureStation printer is a
dedicated, at-home photo
printer that uses dye-subli-
mation technology, to create
durable, lab- quality prints.
The model also incorporates
both Memory Stick PRO and
CompactFlash media slots,
as well as two USB ports -
one in the front for connection to a digital camera or cam-
corder and one in the back for connection to a PC.
Computer users can take advantage of its PC compatibility,
while others will prefer to enjoy viewing, editing and print-
ing without ever having to turn on a computer. With a sup-
plied video cable, users can view images on a television,
select which image to print and, with the press of a button,
produce a print in about 80 seconds. In addition, the DPP-
EX50 model supports PictBridge technology, which allows
users to easily transfer pictures from a digital camera or
camcorder enabled with the technology to a printer with a
USB cable -- without a PC or image editing software. The
DPP-EX50 printer comes packed with built-in editing
options, such as a red-eye reduction tool. In addition,
there are other editing tools for adjusting image sharpness,
contrast, brightness and size. A benefit of dye-sublimation
technology is that the printer ribbon and the printer paper
come bundled together in one box. The paper and ribbon
are matched to deliver the ideal amount of color to each
print for every use; when the ribbon has run out, so has
the paper. The printer delivers 4" x 6", 3.5" x 5" and 3.5"
x 4" print sizes. SONDPPEX50
