2. Spot sampling/profiling of these current and water quality parameters with the unit attached to a
laptop computer and the user present at the site during measurements.
For both of these applications, the primary reason for the user to purchase an ADV6600 – rather
than the SonTek Argonaut-ADV or YSI 6600 sondes individually – will be to correlate and combine
water current and water quality parameter data.
Common monitoring applications include:
Monitoring of streams with variable flow, where changes in the speed parameter as a function
of environmental events (rainfall, etc.) are of primary interest.
Monitoring of estuaries with reciprocal tidal flow, where changes in both speed and direction
are of primary interest.
Monitoring of the velocity of wastewater streams to determine flow paths.
Correlation of time of travel (TOT) measurements using the YSI rhodamine WT sensor with
stream velocity.
Computer model verification of the movement of water and associated water quality parameters
in an estuary or bay system.
Common spot sampling applications include:
Short studies to determine general water characteristics of a given area before, during, or after a
weather event.
Computer model verification of the movement of water and associated quality parameters in an
estuary or bay system.
Spot sampling during construction or dredging activities in order to define impacts on the
environment or to confirm compliance with standards.
I want to measure flow in a river. Is the ADV6600 the right instrument for me?
Probably not. The ADV6600 (like the SonTek Argonaut-ADV) measures velocity at a single point,
so it can be difficult to correlate this single-point velocity with the overall flow of a river. In order to
measure flow, users will usually be advised to purchase any of SonTek’s flow measurement
products (such as the Argonaut-SL or Argonaut-SW). These systems generate values of flow from a
computed water level and a mean river velocity and can be integrated with the YSI 6-series line of
instruments.
Can the ADV6600 be deployed from a buoy?
