WATERTITE
ETCH & CLEANER
For Concrete & Masonry
Technical Data Bulletin
Description
WATERTITE
ETCH & CLEANER is a sulfamic acid-based cleaning and etching
solution, ideal for removing efflorescence (white powdery salt-like deposits
caused by moisture) and excess mortar build-up on concrete, stone, brick, tile
and galvanized metal when mixed with water. This acid solution is safer than
muriatic acid. WATERTITE ETCH provides a light surface etch to promote coating
penetration and adhesion over a variety of masonry surfaces. Use WATERTITE
ETCH prior to painting and waterproofing.
Suitable Substrates:
Concrete block, brick, stone, tile, galvanized metal.
Suitable Uses:
Ideal for cleaning and preparing concrete and masonry surrfaces prior to the application of a coating or patching.
Features:

Surface Preparation and Application
IMPORTANT - Wear gloves, safety glasses with side shields and avoid skin contact to prevent chemical burns.
Use a wire brush to scrape off any loose mortar or dirt. Wash off any grease with detergent. Allow surface to fully dry
before applying WATERTITE ETCH.
Next, mix in a separate container (do NOT use a galvanized container) 6 ounces of WATERTITE ETCH in a ½ gallon
of warm water (water should NOT be hot) and stir to dissolve crystals. For etching heavy cleaning and removal of
efflorescence (white powder on mortar), laitance (powdery cement residue on top of poured concrete) and mortar
splatter, mix the entire contents of package with one gallon of warm
water.
Apply the WATERTITE ETCH over the entire surface with a wire brush. Scrub on surface to remove efflorescence. Allow
to remain for at least 30 minutes, and then rinse with clean water.
Surface should be allowed to dry completely, before applying WATERTIT-LX Mold & Mildew-Proof*
Waterproofing Paint or equivalent coating.
CLEAN UP:
Clean tools immediately after use. Be sure container lid is closed and tightly sealed. Store in a cool, dry place.
