4. Coveronlythetopoftheheatpumptoprevent
debrisfromfallingintotheunit.Donotwrapthe
sidesoftheheatpumpwithanyplasticorother
materialthatwillretainheatormoistureinsidethe
unit.
Ifyourheatpumphasbeenwinterized,perform
thefollowingstepswhenstartingthesysteminthe
Spring:
1. Uncovertheheatpumpandinspectthetopand
sidesforanydebrisorstructuralproblems.
2. Connectthewaterinletandoutletunionslocated
onthelowerfrontpaneloftheheatpump.
3. Turnonthelterpumptosupplywatertothe
heatpump.Circulatewaterthroughthesystem
longenoughtocycleallofthepoolwaterthrough
thelter.Checkforleaksinandaroundtheheat
pump.
4. Checkthepoolchemistryandbalanceas
necessary.
5. Turnontheelectricalpowertotheheatpumpat
themainbreakerpanel.

toprovidelongperformancelifewheninstalledand
operatedproperlyundernormalconditions.Periodic
inspectionsareimportanttokeepyourheatpump
runningsafelyandefficientlythroughtheyears.
Do not use this heat pump if any part has been
under water. Immediately call a qualied service
technician to inspect the heater and replace any
part of the control system which has been under
water.

pumponaregularbasisandespeciallyafterabnormal
weatherconditions.Thefollowingbasicguidelinesare
suggestedforyourinspection:
1. Keepthetopandsurroundingareasoftheheat
pumpclearofalldebris.
2. Keepallplantsandshrubstrimmedandawayfrom
theheatpump.
Theheatpumpwillproducecondensation(water)
whileinoperation.Theheatpumpbaseisdesignedto
allowthecondensationtoexitthroughthebottomdrain
portwhentheunitisrunning.Thecondensationwill
increaseastheoutdoorairhumiditylevelincreases.
Checkthefollowingatregularintervalstoensureproper
condensatedrainage:
1. Visuallyinspectandclearthebottomdrainports
ofanydebristhatcouldclogtheports.
2. Ensurethatcondensatewaterdoesnotpuddle
insidetheheatpump
3. Ensurethatcondensaterun-offisproperlydirected
awayfromtheequipmentpadtokeepitfrom
underminingthepad.
Duringnormaloperation,theheatpumpproduces
3to5gallonsofcondensateperhour.Ifcondensate
drainageisabovethisrangeduringoperationorifwater
continuestodrainfromthebasewhentheheatpump
isnotinoperationformorethananhour,aleakinthe
internalplumbingmayhaveoccurred.Callaqualified
heatpumptechniciantoinvestigatetheproblem.
Keepthetopairflowdischargeandairflowintake
areaclearofdebrissotheairflowthoughtheheatpump
isnotrestricted.Thecoolerdischargeairfromthetop
shouldnotaccumulateandbedrawnintothesideair
intakecoils.Keepallplantsandshrubstrimmedaway
fromtheheatpump.
Makesurethefrontoftheunitisaccessiblefor
futureservice.
Keeplawnsprinklerheadsfromsprayingonthe
heatpumptopreventcorrosionanddamage.Usea
deflectorifneeded.
Iftheunitisinstalledunderaverysharproofpitch
orunderaroofwithoutagutter,agutterordiverter
shouldbefittedtopreventexcessivewaterfrompouring
downintotheunit.
Inspectionsperformedatleastonceayearbya
qualifiedtechnicianarerequiredtomaintainyourheat
pump’ssafeandefficientoperation.Thefollowingbasic
safetychecksmustbeperformed.
1 Checkforlooseorbrokenwiresandterminal
connections.
2. Verifythepressureswitchorowswitch
operation.TurntheheatpumpOFF.Disconnect
