LAN
12.1 O ve rvie w
This chapter describes how to configure LAN settings.
A Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared communication system to which many computers are
attached. A LAN is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same building or floor
of a building.

The LAN screens can help you configure a manage IP address, and partition your physical network into
logical networks.
12.2 Wha t Yo u C a n Do
• Use the LAN IP screen to configure the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for your EMG3435-Q20A on the LAN
(
Section 12.4 on page 113).
• Use the Sta tic DHCP screen to assign IP addresses on the LAN to specific individual computers based
on their MAC Addresses (Section 12.5 on page 114).

12.3 Wha t Yo u Ne e d To Kno w
The actual physical connection determines whether the EMG3435-Q20A ports are LAN or WAN ports.
There are two separate IP networks, one inside the LAN network and the other outside the WAN network
as shown next.
