EMG 3435- Q 20A Mo de s
4.1 O ve rvie w
This chapter introduces the different modes available on your EMG3435-Q20A. First, the term “mode”
refers to two things in this User’s Guide.
We b C o nfig ura to r m o de . This refers to the Web Configurator interface you want to use for editing
EMG3435-Q20A features.
De vic e m ode . This is the operating mode of your EMG3435-Q20A, or simply how the EMG3435-Q20A is
being used in the network.
4.1.1 We b C onfig ura tor Mo de s
This refers to the configuration interface of the Web Configurator, which has two modes:
Ea sy: The Web Configurator shows this mode by default. Refer to
Chapter 5 on page 27 for more
information on the screens in this mode. This interface may be sufficient for users who just want to use
the device.
Expe rt: Advanced users can change to this mode to customize all the functions of the EMG3435-
Q20A. Click > Expe rt Mo de after logging into the Web Configurator. The User’s Guide
Chapter 9 on
page 59
through Chapter 15 on page 158 discusses the screens in this mode.
4.1.2 De vic e Mo de s
This refers to the operating mode of the EMG3435-Q20A, which can act as a:
Ro ute r: This is the default device mode of the EMG3435-Q20A. Use this mode to connect the local
network to another network, like the Internet. Go to
Section 6.2 on page 35 to view the Sta tus screen
in this mode.
Ac c e ss Po int: Use this mode if you want to extend your network by allowing network devices to
connect to the EMG3435-Q20A wirelessly. Go to
Section 7.4 on page 43 to view the Sta tus screen in
this mode.
For more information on these modes and to change the mode of your EMG3435-Q20A, refer to
Chapter 15 on page 158.
The menu for changing device modes is available in Exp e rt Mo de only.
Note: Choose your device mode carefully to avoid having to change it later.
When changing to another mode, the IP address of the EMG3435-Q20A changes. The running
applications and services of the network devices connected to the EMG3435-Q20A can be interrupted.
