The Amerex B571 30 lbs Copper Fire Extinguisher (Class D) uses a copper extinguishing agent specially developed by the U.S. Navy to fight hard-to-control lithium and lithium alloy fires. Lithium and lithium compounds are pyrophoric, which means that their dust or powder will spontaneously combust in the air at or below a temperature of 130°F. This underscores the importance of having a reliable Class D extinguisher designed to fight lithium fires in areas with huge amounts of lithium shavings or dust such as warehouses, factories, laboratories, or anywhere lithium is cut, drilled, or milled. Please note that the B571 is not recommended for lithium-ion battery fires which are classified as Class B fires.
