This grass, a hardy native of the dry American prairie, can take a lot of abuse and rarely needs mowing. Buffalo grass is a warm season type grass. It grows well in heavy soil, does not tolerate shade, is heat and drought resistant and prefers a climate that averages less than 25 in. of rain annually.
