Description

The Hanna Instruments HI 96822 refractometer is a portable meter for measuring salinity levels in natural and artificial waters. The refractometer measures the refractive index of water samples in order to display salt content, with results available within seconds. To take a reading, the sample well must be calibrated with distilled or deionized water, followed by a few drops of the sample liquid. A dual-level LCD screen displays the measurement and temperature within several seconds. The HI 96822 converts the refractive index of the sample to one of three popular units for measuring salinity: Practical Salinity Units (PSU), Salinity in parts per thousand (ppt), or Specific Gravity (S.G. [20/20]). The 9V battery-operated device utilizes a yellow LED as a light source, and automatically powers off after three minutes of non-use. The HI 96822 has a range of 0 to 50 PSU, 0 to 150 ppt, or 1.000 to 1.114 specific gravity and automatic temperature compensation between 10 and 40 degrees C (50 to 104 degrees F). ...
