The surface is best rubbed off with a dry, clean cloth. Never use bathroom cleaners - these usually contain anti-adhesive substances. Separating layers can usually be removed with pure alcohol (isopropanol or propyl alcohol) from the pharmacy. Use wax-dissolving cleaner on waxed natural stones.
