Description
The Copper Beech sports foliage that goes through a stunning transition from a purple hue to a burnished copper, reminiscent of an autumn sunset. While gorgeous when planted as a solitary showcase tree, it is also well-suited for multiple plantings as a hedgerow, serving to break up sight lines and wind. Alternatively, plant a copse of Beeches and let their densely packed foliage provide cool respite with their dense swathes of shade in the summer heat. Copper Beeches are quite resistant to disease and pest infestations, making them the perfect choice for a low maintenance, beautiful and versatile tree. Growing best in USDA zones 4-7, the Copper Beech is more suited to moderate climates and will perform best with full-to-partial sunlight. Also referred to as the Purple Beech in its native Europe, it can grow upwards of 100 ft. tall at an average pace. With a medium tolerance for heat, all you need to do to ensure healthy growth is keep moist and well-drained soil surrounding the tree.
