The Rupert Neve 5045 shares some traits with the "Noises Conventional gates, but works with a different principle common aspect is that both reduce the gain during the absence of a signal - or more specifically, both begin to attenuate the gain when the level of a signal falls below a certain user-defined threshold. The 5045 detects when someone is talking or singing into the microphone and allows the signal to pass, detects when it stops speak or sing and reduce gain in a way appropriate, which helps to reduce the tendency of a system to enter in feed back. More importantly, the 5045 does not require filtering and digital processing to get these results.
