The lock is released from the exterior by using a key or from the interior by turning the lever. This lever set is panic-proof in that the inside lever is always unlocked. Vandlgard™ is designed to disengage the outside spindle from the latch when in the locked position. The locked outside lever freely rotates up and down while remaining securely locked. The free-wheeling lever eliminates the ability to exert excessive force or to stand on the lever, preventing damage to internal lock components.
