Dragon Prince Cryptomeria is a lush evergreen selection from Southern Living Plants. At 2-3 tall at maturity, this cryptomeria will give you the trademark lush, blue-green foliage of a standard cryptomeria in a dwarf habit. Cryptomeria, also known as Japanese Cedar, is known for its scaled foliage. Dwarf varieties have been used in rock gardens and bonsai trees. They also do well in woodland style gardens and as textural contrast in mixed beds. Once established, this low-growing shrub proves itself to be quite hardy. It’s heat and drought tolerant and handles cold in stride as well. Pruning is unnecessary to keep its dwarf rounded shape. It is hardy in USDA Zones 6-9, and should be planted in full sun. Dragon Prince can tolerate a wide range of soils. Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring to help promote new growth.
