When measuring current you can without breaking the circuit. Clamp around the X1 position for a direct current reading or use the X10 position to display low current readings multiplied by 10. You can also detect faulty wiring in 3-wire receptacles. The lights display 5 wiring faults: Open Ground, Open Neutral, Hot/Ground Reverse, Open Hot, Hot/Neutral Reverse.
